Question: Slave Flash Issues?
I use an Olympus E-Volt 500. I bought a couple of umbrellas/slave flashes to do some indoor portraits. I have never used these indoors like this. Well, the problem is, the slave flashes fire but the pictures come out almost black, like there was no light at all. There is nothing in the users manual to tell me how to fix this. What am I doing wrong?
Answer: There can be several issues.
The most likely issue is theat shutter speed is not synced with the flash
First try setting the speed around 1/60th of a second.
If that doesn't work set the camera on bulb. I am assuming you are able to take a normal picture so that would signify the mirror is acting properly.
If that doesn't work set the lens to wide open to make sure it isnt the lens. If that works you need just adjust the lens aperatue to the proper setting
If it is still dark after all that the last thing to try is to switch lens.

Question: Set up suggestions for prom dance fotos, using equipment i have.?
What i have are 2 - 500 watt hot lights with 12" aluminum reflectors ( ceramic sockets),
I shoot thru umbrella and light (day) , 1 slave flash unit ( that can go on one light stand ) ,
also a 'puffer' for the pop up flash on a Pentax K200D using 18-250 Pentax lens.
Have been asked to do prom couples shots in a pinch and just curious on some pointers ... :/
BG to be simple , dark green or black. Kind of looking for a lighting diagram I guess ...Answer: Do you want to light the background? If not try to keep spill off it by using black foamcore or similar as flags. How much room have you got? You'll want the prom guests well in front of the b/g and have the light source close to them to get the light falloff not hitting the b/g.
I'm guessing for prom photos you're going to want a pretty standard portrait lighting setup with ratios in the region of 2:1 or even 1:1.
I'd place one of the hotlights with the umbrella (what size is it - you want 32" minimum, 43" or larger is better) to illuminate one side as key and use the other hotlight as fill, dialled down with a diffuser if there's no power control. You want it either a the same or 1 stop lower than the key. Can you get hold of another light modifier for the fill light? Only if its reflector, you may end up with harsher shadows from that light.
Alternatively, go for a one light setup & use a reflector for fill.

Question: Is the Pentax K100D comes with a built in slave drive?I was looking for flashes, and found this http://www.labellecameras.com/products.cfm/Digital-Camera/PENTAX/K100D/External-flash-ESLFL.html a present that makes it appear that all you have to do is just flash and wireless flash I have .. what is the deal I need some more information. im ready to move on and get some external flash .. PocketWizards are too expensive so I have to save ...
Answer: Fires when the camera fires the flash file. IMO it looks like a low-power low quality unit. It would be useful to know exactly what you want to achieve with an external flash. If you modify your question we can be of further assistance.
