Question: 94 Honda Civic 66000 miles. Can i drive home (250 m) with a cracked head gasket w/o engine damage?

I am in my last semester of college and recently my car has been acting up and began to overheat, lose coolant at a rapid pace, and the honda mechanic said that I have a cracked head gasket. They say that the repair costs will run from $1300-3600. Can i drive it home about 250 miles safely without the ngine giving up on me? I am planning on stopping every 60 miles or so to let the engine cool down and add more coolant. I know that if too much coolant gets into the engine it can cause engine damage. I have a reliable mechanic who can fix it at home and for cheap. Should I wait until i get home to get it fixed or fix it up at school? Thanks for the help.

Answer: have you looked into the price of getting it towed home? thats a long way to drive home if it is sucking coolant out of it.. its your call, i am not gonna tell you to drive it and then recieve hatemail the rest of my life cuz it blew up on ya.. whats the car worth? if its worth more than 1300-3600 bucks, i would not drive it.. less than that, go for it!!

Question: Can I replace my Aprilaire furnace filter with a regular filter?

The replacement media for my Aprilaire furnace filter cost almost $60 the last time I replaced it and I want to try using a regular filter from a hardware store. There is a plastic case which holds the pleated media and the pleats are separated by plastic combs. I was thinking that I could remove the media and combs and place a regular filter inside the plastic case. Would this hold? Has anyone tried this?

Answer: Yes it could be done but you may have to make something to adapt a close fitting filter into it.
I have made filter adapters for these units that now use a different filter cartridge of the same performance that are much cheaper ($28).
My customers pay a $65 trip and installation charge along with $30.00 for the sheetmetal adapter and $28 for each filter.
Or if your handy you could do it yourself.

Answer: I'm surprised they do not give you a manual when you bought the bike. If this bike is brand new, I would recommend that it is in his first 600 miles oil change costs about 200 bucks and they do it correctly and check everything. Each time it is cheaper to him plus its easier to keep records of whats been done, when and where. Some guys want to do yourself, says to save a dollar / my manual, there are 2 oil drain plugs is on the right side below near the muffler.
