I own the digital Cannon Rebel XT. I of course have the 18-55mm kit lens that came with the camera. I have owned two zoom lenses, 75-300mm. The first was a Quantaray and the second was a Tamron. Unfortunately they both broke on me, and I hardly even got a chance to use the Tamron. I know that, for the money, I liked the way the Quantaray worked, even if it was a little loud and slow in auto-focus.

I am working my way into doing more portrait work, as well as wedding. I know that most pros would suggest that I buy a prime, but right now I am still interested in a zoom, preferably in the 75-300 range. Any advice on what I should get. I would like to spend less than 500, but if I get enough recommendations for a higher end Cannon, I might just have to follow the advice.

Answer: If you want to do weddings, it’ll be in your best intrest to start saving up for some pro glass instead of the cheaper consumer lenses. There is a visual and noticeable difference between the two. Less distortion, better contrast, faster apatures, and superior sharpness. Lets not also forget that these things are built like tanks. They’re nowhere near as fragile as the two you previously owned that broke.

Question: Is the Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II LD SP ZL a worthy upgrade from the Rebel XSi kit 1-55 IS lens?

I presently have the 18-55 and the 55-250 IS as my main lens package, plus a nifty 50mm f/1.8 for a lot of low light, portrait stuff- which I love, cheap and great pics. I have the opportunity to buy the Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II LD SP ZL , selling my 18-55, investing ’bout another 100-150 in the process. My depth of knowledge isn’t so great, i’ve read the requisite reviews on the Tamron 17-50…bottom line, will optics and IQ upgrade from the kit lens justify the cost? I realize no IS, but is there an upgrade here nonetheless? i don’t wanna trouble anyone for a thesis on glass/lens contrast pros-cons, but if someone in the know could avail me of the relevant particulars that should…or shouldn’t make me buy this, much appreciated

Answer: Do the comparison test of the two lenses under the same conditions. See which one focuses the fastest and shoot both wide open and see which one performs the best at their shortest focal length.

That will tell you more than our opinions.

I always buy the OEM lens.

That would mean that I would use the $150-$200 toward buying the Canon 10-22 mm super wide angle lens

I try to be a good guy I have a steady job and a savings account a place to live and a truck, but the women always seem to go to the druggie or jerk that has no job or lives with their parents. Why do they always go for the men who hit them and abuse them? Should I start doing this please help

Answer: Under no circumstances are you to lower yourself to that level. Somewhere is a beautiful woman who wants just what you have to give. A woman who knows her own worth and is not looking for affection from just anyone who will give her the time of day. Wait for her, it will be worth it. The women who go for the abusers typically dont like themselves, or are so riddled with guilt and shame that they think this is their just reward in life.
