Question: What options are there for waterproof flooring?

I need waterproof flooring for my house in the Florida panhandle. What options are available, what brands are available, and where can I learn about pricing, purchasing, and installation? I won’t be able to do the installation myself–I will have to hire installers.

Answer: Your best bet for waterproof flooring is tile. Tile is available in a multitude of options: natural stone (marble, slate, limestone, etc.), ceramic, and porcelain. The price point of the tile itself as well as installation varies widely, so your budget might dictate your choice; ceramic being the least expensive and natural stone the most expensive. Ceramic tile is more fragile and more easily damaged by chipping and pitting. Porcelain tile is harder and more durable than ceramic, mid-priced with lots of colors and styles available, even some which mimic natural stone that are lovely. Natural stone is durable and gorgeous, but it should be sealed to protect from stains and watermarks. If you decide on tile, remember to use the smallest grout line possible since it’s easier to maintain and more attractive.

As far as learning about pricing on tile and installation, the best bet would be to hit the road and shop around your local suppliers to decide on the tile itself and compare one store to another. The internet is a good option to familiarize yourself with tile and if you find something you love, you can always ask your local dealer if they have something similar or if they can supply that particular tile. Ask for free estimates from installers (along with references once you decide on the installer).

Question: Could you make a house with water resistant paper waste newsprint paper?

I liked papier-mache crafts when I was not much bigger than a large-format newspaper. all kinds of creations appeared little more than mix with newspaper, flour, salt and water. Is feasible to build a paper mache shelter? Could a cement or clay is used instead of flour? How could the role became superstructure mold resistant and waterproof? Lime? Newsprint all that is thrown away, on my block alone, would have enough material to build a mansion of paper!

Answer: I remember a product called wheat paste used to make papier-mache articles. After the 'bricks' to dry completely sealed with something like Thompson's Water Seal. I would use the bricks to build a house of fun games but I like to live in a house like this. He would not endure a storm and much least one tornado.
