Question: Lens UV Filter does that help improve image or make it worst?

Does filter work with the lens hood? Does filter has like a glass to protect the lens? but does it make image worst or better? i had a Nikon D40.

Answer: Image will improve because it just lets the visible light coming in and stops the UV light which makes your photo go bluish.
However If there is not much UV in your area then the lens will reduce quality ‘slightly’ (you will not be able to see it). Buy MC filters and don’t go for brand alone. Hoya green is much inferior than other brands who are MC (mulicoated) . Hoya purple etc are high end MC filters and so is B + W etc.

You can borrow a filter and see the results. You have a digital camera so the film sensitivity reason does not apply to you but you must remember that you camera at the end of the day is just another tool and will take abuse. Conditions are never studio like and you will see salt water, mist, rain, sand etc all coming towards your lens. If you see many PRO cameramen (Pro to me means someone who makes a living by it) then you will find that they use filters. They have had the same question like you did and they decided that keeping the filter on was better.

I once asked a BMW mechanic who had come to see my freind’s car about the tools he used. I was expecting some big name but he said that I use the cheaper tools because he does not want to go back 30 KM to hunt for the tool he has lost.

You have enough information now.

Question: How can I get notified when a friend adds a photo and vice versa?

My friend recently uploaded some photos to Facebook, but I didn’t get notified – i.e. nothing in my news feed, wall, or any other tab as far as I can tell. How can I get notified when my friend adds photos? Note that my friend also posted the photo to their profile.

Similarly when I add photos my friends don’t get notified.

I do, however, get notifications when some different friends add photos. What am I missing?

Thanks in advance, Nick
Update – I was using picasa to upload the photos. Adding directly from facebook solved the problem.

Answer: ok…this may help:
check your privacy, choose “only friends” option.. do not choose “customize”
also let your friends check theirs
