One has 2 lenses. The first lens is a Nikkor 18-55 VR lens, the second is a 55-200vr lens.

The second package just has a Nikkor AFS 18-105mm lens vr zoom, but it also has a free case and a tripod.

They are both around the same price. Which one do you suggest?

Answer: Hi,

I used the Nikon D90 with the 18-105mm lens and it really is a wonderful kit. I was actually surprised at to how sharper it feels in comparison to my Canon 17-85mm lens. It’s also fast, feels solid and it’s a better option than the 18-55mm.

As for the other combo i had the chance to use it at a car race and to be honest i wasn’t impressed. The 18-55mm lens is first and foremost a kit lens, meaning that you buy it to test your hand until you get enough money to upgrade it. At least for my taste, the only reason why i could possibly choose the two lens combo over the 18-105 is the extra range. Having said that, unless you plan to shoot distant objects (usually standing still) you’re not going to use it that often.

If you have the chance to visit a camera shop you could ask them to try all three lenses and see which of the two kits fits you better.

Question: If I wanted to take up photography as a hobby, what would you recommend – serious answers please?

I’m not exactly the artistic type and I don’t have any expensive photographic equipment. However, I’ve been thinking about getting into photography as a hobby – using a digital camera, not film. I currently have a 5.0 MP camera with a 3x optical zoom. I’ve played around a bit with the various features and learned how to take decent pictures in various conditions. And I do have a decent tripod.

I guess one of my main questions is whether I should immediately try to buy a digital SLR camera or if the one I have would be adequate to start.

And once I am taking pictures, are there specific subjects or concepts I should focus on. Or is it more just getting out there and taking pictures?

Answer: You dont say your location, but if you are in the UK most tech colleges do a cousre in photography and it is not to costly.
I did it last year and it was brilliant, and the college supplies 99% of the equipment too.

Question: SLR Camera Settings for the "Northern Lights"?

Hello people .. I photograph can be a trip Iceland or Norway can to attend the "Northern Lights phenomenon and take many pictures .. The camera I have is a reflex Canon 400D and I currently have 3 lenses (standard 1.8 —- 18-55 —- 70-300 50mm zoom lens) .. I would like some professional advice on camera settings / / Modes should I use to take pictures with my 400D fires .. Also, should I use a tripod at any time and I need different glasses to those mentioned that I am much clearer / better pictures?. I do not want to waste this opportunity photography! I am an amateur at the moment with SLR photography, but they took some pictures pretty decent so far .. If you saw yourself on fire one of these countries, so perhaps you can advise me on the best time of year to travel and what I might need to know .. All information is greatly appreciated .. Answer: First you must pay an objective that fits the region of sky where the aurora borealis is active. Most of the pictures I've seen are all taken with a sort of wide angle, which means that your 70-300 mm is disqualified. The 50mm lens can cover enough the sky to capture the lights, but your best bet is the 18-55 mm … but check first. Using the camera on a tripod and make a test using the aperture priority mode, take some pictures. If the results are more exposed, let alone the shutter speed in manual mode and start stop the lens down until you get a good color saturation and we are pleased with the results. Here is a link that includes Typical exposure parameters. http://www.ptialaska.net/ ~ hutch / aurora.html based on the list, take your photos at ISO 200 @ f / 4 with the objective set at 18 mm for 120 seconds. Set the time necessary to obtain a good saturation. You know, it is surprising that you do not just search the internet for the answer to your question. I typed "the aurora borealis" in Yahoo Search and got the answer in seconds.
