Question: How close can I take a carbon fibre camera pole to a railway overhead cable?
I was taking pictures in difficult weather conditions, strong wind, intermittent torrential showers, next to the Helensburgh to Glasgow line last week, the overhead power is 25KV. I was worried that my pole might allow an arking effect to occur despite being about 15 feet from the railway line.In the end I left the pole about 30 feet away from me and just took my photos with no extra support.
I should add I am worried about being electrocouted, nothing else.
Mickyd you may not have noticed, but UK railways have a thing called a fence along the side of them. provided you don`t cross the fence you can go as close to the railway line as you like.Answer: Indeed, you are very wise. You cannot rely on the pole being an insulator, since if the surface is even slightly damp ("torrential showers", you said!), current can pass along the surface of the pole. I personally wouldn't raise the end of the pole much above my head height, if anywhere near the line.

Question: Which Manfrotto tripod to buy?
I want to buy a carbon fibre Tripod. I have read reviews and would like to buy Manfrotto.
I have found two tripods from Manfrotto
1. Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 Carbon Fibre Tripod and
2. Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 Carbon Fibre Tripod
Can anyone tell me which one is best and why?
My camera gear
Nikon D300 & Nikon D70
Nikon Lenses - 18-200mm, 105mm Macro, 50mm 1.4
Thanks in advanceAnswer: They are both pretty much the same in features. The 055 is taller, and can handle more weight. It also weighs more.
I have the 190CXPRO4, and even with my Canon 5D MarkII and my big 70-200 IS F2.8 L lens on it, I never felt it wasn't good enough.Go to the Manfrotto website to carefully study both, but unless you're very tall, I bet the smaller one would do just fine.

Question: Photo Camera Screw Mount Size?
What is the size of the screw mount on a digital/film photo camera, such as the canon 40D? Is it 1/4" or 3/4"
Trying to buy a replacement quick release for my tripod.
I need either the 200PL-14 Rectangular Quick Release Plate with 1/4"-20 Screw
or the 200PL-38 Rectangular Quick Release Plate with 3/8" Screw
Thanks,
Answer: Buy the 200PL-14 since your camera uses a 1/4-20 tripod mount.

Question: How can I get my camera to automatically take a photo every 5 seconds?
I have a Canon t2i DSLR that I'd like to mount on a tripod and set to automatically take a photo every 2, 5 or 10 seconds or so, but the camera doesn't offer that option. I'd also like to sometimes have a radio trigger mounted on the hotshoe to fire a strobe or two as well. Is any of this possible? I'm not interested in taking video and then going through it frame by frame to find good stills.
A few examples of what I'm after: capturing random animal/insect shots in a studio setting; sports or family activities where I can be involved instead of being behind the camera; stop-action animation without constantly hitting a shutter release, etc.
Answer: I'm not sure what a t2i is but this sort of thing is available on ebay...

You can also buy cheap radio triggers for off camera flash on ebay as well.
I linked my camera to a laptop and used it for timelapse... which gives you another option, although you'd have to obtain Canon remote software.
