Question: How long can I wait until I register for a canon camera warranty?
I purchased a Canon SD1000 camera in March of 2007. I didn't register for a warranty at the time because I didn't really think about it. The camera is now broken and it hasn't been a year yet. Can I still register for a warranty now?
The lens of the camera won't go back in. Everytime I push the power button, it saids "Lens error, restart camera." Everytime I restart it saids the same thing.
I bought the camera from Staples.Answer: First replace the camera batteries and try it again.
If this doesn't work, take the camera and your original receipt back to Staples, show them what the camera is doing, and see what they will do about it. They're usually pretty good and will probably either have the camera repaired or will replace it for you. The Canon camera warranty is good on your camera regardless of whether you file it or not as long as you have the original receipt. I'm not sure whether the warranty on that camera is 90 days or one year but if it is one year and I think it is, Staples will take care of you.

Answer: OK, for one, it depends on what camera you have. Talk about video right? Because when you're talking video, You can not, can (ok, I would not say no, but if there is a "camera" and not a "camcorder" is, one can not and it would be a Push, if not impossible, even! ) That is, if you want to take a long exposure and a camera in a position, you might be able to access the bulb use setting. I've done a little research, and right now its really between the canon and the olympus.Answer: They are are entry-level cameras and they will all get the job done pretty much equally. You can't go wrong with any of them...however, I'd put the Olympus's near the bottom. Olympus uses 4/3rds sensors, which are significantly smaller than the typical DSLR with a DX sensor (about 1.5x smaller than 35mm, where Olympus cameras have a sensor 2x smaller). Based on that alone, I feel like you might as well go for the most optimal image quality when upgrading from a point and shoot, and the Olympus can't compete.
The DSLR battle is really between Nikon and Canon. They are the two most* (canon also makes printers and stuff, Nikon sticks to optical equipment) camera-centered brands out there, they both have huge selections of lenses, and they both have a ton of user support. Sony is definitely catching up though, and I'll give them credit, they're making fantastic cameras and lenses. None of these cameras are without flaws, but for entry level, they will suit your needs. My best advice is to go to Best Buy or Target or a local camera store and try out whatever they have within your budget. Buy whatever you like using the most. You can't go wrong.
A biased opinion: the Nikons have the best ergonomics. The screen is dead-center with the viewfinder and sensor, and the buttons are exactly where I want them to be (I have a D300). I find Canons ridiculously uncomfortable. Many people don't though...it's a personal choice.
