Answer: I have intimate knowledge of the PENTAX K mount. So I'll explain to you what's going on.
That lens is not autofocus, I see no screw drive or internal motor contacts on that lens.
You will notice however there is a series of contacts on the mount plate of the lens. This is how you will know a lens is A capable or AUTO (auto-exposure).
This allows communication between the lens and the body allowing control of the aperture from the camera body making automatic modes like full auto and shutter priority possible. Earlier lenses like the PENTAX M-series and original K-series do not have these contacts and thus cannot work on full auto or shutter priority.
So the seller was correct that this is an AUTO lens, it was just a misunderstanding between the definitions of auto-exposure and auto-focus.

Question: Help with Pentax K110D flash.?
I've been having problems with my Pentax K110D for a while now, and I was wondering if there was a way I could fix my flash without sending it in AND before I get an external flash. I'm currently using the internal flash, and it doesn't even work. Not even when I have the setting ON flash. It's so confusing and frustrating, and I hate having to use my older camera because of this. Help?
Answer: There is nothing you can do unless you are a trained camera repair person .. and by your question, you are not.
If it is still under warranty, send it in for repair. If not, buy a good Pentax dedicated digital external flash.

Question: How do I get my Pentax AF200 Flash to work on my Pentax K1000?How do I get my Pentax AF200 Flash to work Pentax K1000 on my? I put the flash on the horseshoe of the camera, but when I take a picture without flash comes out. I Set the shutter speed 60 (where "x" is orange), the ISO speed and flash are on the unit I tested the flash and it works great, put new batteries too. HELP!
Answer: Make sure the flash is inserted into the accessory shoe. Except not make a good physical contact with the claw, the flash will not be triggered. Also, check the shoe and the flash contacts for tarnish or corrosion. You can have need to clean the shoe with a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol to get rid of tarnish, the same for the flash contacts. The flash must be set to Auto, which I believe is red or green on the back. White is manual (flash at full power). Here's how the flash on a K1000: You set the shutter speed to 1 / 60 or slower (that's why the X is there). You define all of the ISO on the flash, then look over to the ladder. If the flash output is fixed to the green, choose the opening by the green line. If the flash is set to red, choose the opening by the red line. Red has an output more than green. The maximum range of automatic 12 'green and 24' for the red (which should correspond to your flash, I hope). Now if you have cleaned the contacts and they are certainly making a good physical contact with each other, and you still do not get a flash and then there are three options: 1) the flash is bad, 2) label of the device is dead or 3) both 1 and 2). You can test a) by trying another reflex (just go to Photo shop and try one of this reflex). You can test 2) by trying another flash (well, as long as you're in store for the test of lightning, why not?). Hopefully it's just a dirty contact flash. Edit: I do not know why people are wondering if the flash is compatible. The K1000 is a non-dedicated shoe and the flash has manual and automatic two outputs, dedication only works with cameras that have the right contacts in the claw accessory. With non-dedicated Pentax flash is manual or automatic, with no obligation. If they do not know, they should not respond.
