Answer: Probably not. If you have spent much time here at all, you should have seen us warning about getting seduced by “cheap” deals with a lot of “free” accessories.

It sounds a lot like you got scammed by a grey market store. To be sure, call the Nikon help line and ask them if the company who sold you your camera is an authorized dealer 800.NIKON-UX

For under $450 Amazon sells the D40 with AF-S 18-55 mm ED II lens with all the Nikon components included: Nikon Li-ion battery, batter charger (Li-ion batteries are NOT rated in length of time, but in number of exposures … a sure sign you have an after market battery) Including cheap tripods and a lens cleaner is one of the sure signs that you are buying a gray market camera

Don’t even try to get the camera repaired by Nikon USA … they will not touch gray market cameras.

The MC-DC1 Remote Cord has a lock but isn’t compatible with the D90.

The MC-DC2 Remote Cord is listed as an accessory for the D90 but there is no indication that it locks like the MC-DC1. Call 1-800-645-6689 and ask Nikon if the MC-DC2 locks.

Question: How can I add the Bulb mode on a Nikon D3000 without holding the trigger, the duration of exposure?

I try to arrive the night Exposure to a shot of rotating stars in the sky. I am likely to have the door is open for 1-2 hours, and standing with his finger on the trigger in Bulb mode will be brutally annoying. Suggestions or a mode, I'm not seeing? Can the remote control that Nikon does this help?

Answer: If you do not) buy a remote release (either wired or wireless, you must hold down the trigger. The Nikon Remote Control ML-L3 is a cheap wireless IR remote control and it will allows you to lock the shutter down when they push in bulb mode for long exposures (& hold for a few secs I think). What you will find with such long exposure times is a lot of digital noise. The processing of the image (if you have Long Exposure Noise Reduction) is at the counter last so long as the exposure (ie 1-2 hours), as it takes a 'dark frame' exposure for the subtraction. Make sure you fully charged batteries before You start! I would like to propose an alternative, a very long exposure star trails. The advantages are the sky gets darker, the processing of zero (which is unlikely is that you have switched LENR at all) and if the battery is exhausted, you still have a few frames. This is to take a lot of demands and they are stacked 30sec using this application; http://www.startrails.de/html/software.html The only disadvantage is that you manually set the camera each exposure is started. You must do not use either lamp, you can set shutter speed is at 30 seconds in S mode. I still recommend a remote – if for any long exposure work to shake to avoid by pressing the button.
