Question: i have a sony alpha a300 and i cant do motion blur with it?

the pictures are completely overexposed, even at one second with the exposure down two stops. my dad reckons a couple of ND filters will stop this but i just wanted to check before i bought them. any ideas of how to stop this happening would be much appreciated. iso is obviously at 100 (the lowest)
yes two stops is the lowest you can go on the A300
also which ND filter would you go for? would you go for an ND8 for motion blur of waterfalls/coast shots? or something else

Thanks

Answer: You really need to go on a course and get this basic stuff.

Under any lighting conditions there is only one level of light on the sensor that will give a correct exposure.

Lets say on a bright day when your apertures is set at say f8, and your camera gives you a meter reading of 1/400th of a second, at f11 it will give you 1/200th of a second. On the second setting its giving you half the light for twice as long net result exactly the same amount of light falls onto the sensor.

You want to shoot at 1 second or slower which in photgraphic terms is a long time, so your aperture neeeds to be tiny, (high f number) but your smallest aperture may not be far enough to get >1 second shutter time with the light conditions as you find them.

You have two courses of action you can wait till the light level goes down to the point that your smallest aperture WILL give you a shutter time of >1 second, or you can use ND (Neutral Density) filters, all these do is cut the light reaching the sensor down. They are available in different strengths from 2 stops to 8 stops, and you can stack them to get even more effect. On a bright day you’ll need the stronger ones, may be even more than one, on a dull overcast day a 2 stop may be all you need.

Question: What size (mm) of filter should I buy for my Sony Alpha 300? 55mm?

Answer: I do not know, but you can discover. Filter size is specific to the lens – some lenses are 55mm, 72mm some, etc. To know how to look a lens filter size in the front of the lens. There will be a symbol of a circle with a line through it. Next to the symbol is a measure in mm. That is your filter size.

Question: Can the term ‘Red Scare’ be used to describe fear of Communism in the USA post 1945?

I know it was originally describing the 1920s, but can the period 1945-154 also be called a period of Red Scare?

Answer: No question — absolutely. And this scare, which began with the Berlin Blockade, turned into paranoia after the collapse of the Nationalist Chinese government, and the installation of the Communists under Mao Tse Tung.

Literally, one-quarter of the earth’s population was taken over by the communists overnight. It wasn’t expected in America, and sent shockwaves through Washington. More than anything, the fall of China and the Korean War were responsible for the growth of McCarthy and the new Red Scare.

Question: Why was there a Red Scare in the U.S. in the 1920s?

Red Scare means communism.

Answer: Certain groups of wealthy industrialists, and politicians were well funded to act only in their interests, thought he had everything to lose with communism – and that, since half a U.S. citizen who had very little social security actually benefit from a socialist government could welcome and support – was to fill their gullible little minds with stories of the Bolsheviks without God fed infants and the closure of the end of Western civilization as they knew.
