Question: Why do you get the negative picture slides when you order prints of pictures?

I was just wondering why everytime when I go to walgreens to get my pictures printed out, i always recieve the negative slides too?

Answer: Those negatives are the original pieces of film that have been developed. The small prints that you receive when you have the film processed contain nowhere near the resolution and information found in the negatives. From these negatives, you could make new prints at much much larger sizes (even poster-size for some shots). The same cannot be said for the prints that you receive — enlarging those will result in noticeably soft/blurry images very quickly. Many photographers scan their negatives so that they can digitally edit the photo as well.

Answer: All slide films look like "positive" image. But for historical reasons, they are called reversal film (because it is the opposite of a film negative). Slides have very little exposure latitude (just margin of exposure error). So you must be dead on.
