Question: Do you have a issue with drum triggers?

I remember i asked this once last year to mixed results…so curious the result this time.

For those who don’t know, a trigger is normally set up on the Bass drum in alot of metal bands. It enhances the sound of the drum so you don’t have to hit it consistently for sound (i.e, if you tap it lightly, it will still create the same sound as if you hit it hard).

I know there are a few drummers who do not use them but probably 90% of death metal bands use them (especially live). Even well respected drummers have used them (i believe Mike Portney used them on one studio album).

**Howling Glory: yeah, I have heard the argument that if its not triggered you just end up getting a wall of sound without distinguished hits. which is fine, but I know Derek Roddy stopped using them and he will be at 300bpm

Answer: I have no problems with drummers using ‘triggers’ as 80-95 percentage of metal drummer do use triggers(Death/black metal).A lot of people consider triggers as cheating as it just enhance’s sound quality.I take nothing away from the drummer if they use triggers , they are still very talented with or without it.

Dave haley (as one of my favorite drummers) didn’t use triggers in the 1st psycroptic album ”’The Isle of Disenchantment” but after that he uses them like i said It doesn’t enhance timing/technicality/or creativity…. It’s not like there steroids like people may think.

Triggers do not hide errors, they make them more obvious. You can edit a drum track into 100% robotic perfection with only microphones,Alot of people think when drummers use triggers it’s lazee-ness but i think of it as EFFICENT, hey if you can get the sound clearer and easier why not?

I can probably think of more that probably don’t use them but i wouldn’t know for sure.

Question: I have a Dell Studio. At random times it stops abruptly. I do not know what triggers?
