Question: What to do when I get dust/foreign objects on camera mirror?
Ive got a nikon d60. one night this past weekend while on vacation i was changing a lens near a fan and the next morning, i noticed some black dots while looking through the viewfinder. i tried wiping the mirror off with a lens cloth, but that just took away the objects and added more. Later on one of my relatives that is a photographer brought over some of that compressed "air"(the stuff that turns really cold when you shake it), and told me to blow off the mirror. I didn't get a chance to use it until after he left, and after applying it to the mirror and the glass above that protects the sensor i reattached the lens and looking through the viewfinder it was tinted brown/black. taking the lens off it looked like the compressed "air" had condensed on the mirror and glass above it. I quickly wiped if off with the lens cloth. There are still a few dots of dust, what should I do to safely and cheaply (without taking it to a professional) clean off my camera mirror? thanks.
Answer: The easiest way is to just deal with the spots in your viewfinder. They won't show up in your pictures. If you don't like that, keep trying compressed air and microfiber cloth. Don't shake the canned air and use light quick bursts while holding the camera mirror side down. Also make sure your cloth is free of dust and debris and make light passes. Too much pressure can damage the mirror mechanism.
There may also be dust in/on the prism and you are noticing that. That is harder to clean.
So yeah, I know it can be a distraction, but as long as it's not on your images it doesn't matter.

Question: Can you tell if your camera lens is scratched?It is also very bad to clean lens tissue or any soft cloth
Answer: Keep the lens in a light so you can watch the entire surface of the glass with a shallow angle, while moving around. You should be able to see dirt or damage, if not use a lens to view it. It is bad for the use of any soft cloth. Would put all the substances chemicals from fabric on your goal. The only thing that you should never touch the lens with the objects are designed and sold specifically for cleaning coated photographic lenses. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and never listen to someone who would take a rag and wipe a lens with a stranger it - http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/cleaning.htm - DOH! Alcohol can damage some lenses too big.

Question: How do I clean my SLR lens without leaving streaks?After doing some research on how to clean a lens reflex, I found that most common suggestion is to use the warm breath and a microfiber cloth to clean the lens with a circular motion. This seemed to work at first. However, after careful consideration, very slight streaks were visible when the lens is viewed under the light of the sun or a bright halogen lamp. In other conditions, these strips are not visible. The image quality does not seem to be influenced, but I can not help thinking that there must be at least a little 'photo degradation due to these strips. I'm being an obsessive? Is there a way to remove these strips? I just bought this camera a week ago (a Nikon D40 with lens) and I want to keep it in pristine condition as long as possible. I think the streaks are caused by a dirty cloth microfiber. Wash cloth would be a good idea? If so, what should I clean it with? That What should I avoid cleaning with?
Answer: Clean with micro fiber cloth. Or obtain one from an optometrist. Never, ever clean the lenses with any type of liquid or hot breath. Unless there is a strip of some kind and the fabric is not good enough. Then and only then would use Lens Cleaner. Is poured on the cloth and rub, never on the lens. Otherwise, liquid can penetrate under the magnifying glass and settle there. You can allow bacteria and algae to grow and ruin the lens.
