Answer: Your link is broken. If you’re talking about optical slaves then you NEED a slave that’s actually made for Canon EX flash units. http://www.flashzebra.com/products/0127/index.shtml The problem is with the Canon Speedlite. It’s design doesn’t interrupt the circuit when the flash fires, most other triggers rely on this to reset the trigger. If you don’t have one of these you’ll have to recycle the flash every time to get an optical slave to work (turn the flash off then back on), and that doesn’t really let creative juices flow unless you’re just working with products.

The other issue that you’ll run into is the pre-flashes from your camera itself. Canon’s popup flash doesn’t allow you to turn them off. It’s so instantaneous that you don’t realize they’re happening but the happen every single time. The pre-flashes, used for metering your TTL system, set off the slave prematurely. You’ll see the flash go off, you’ll adjust and adjust, but you’ll never see anything show up in the pictures. Quite confusing if you don’t know what’s going on.

My advice, get radio triggers. Avoid the super duper cheap ebay versions but you won’t have to spend $400 to get this to work. Cybersyncs are quite popular. I have Skyports for mine. Another option would be to buy a cheap no name flash to use off camera with the slave that you already own. The Vivitar 285 and the like are very popular.
