Question: What kind of battery should I use to power my Tent Trailer?
I have a old school starcraft tent trailer. The battery is missing. I am wondering what kind that I should get to power the inside lights, and equipment. Also, will it charge from the wiring system that hooks up to the tow vehicle?
Answer: You want to be sure you get a 'deep cycle' battery that's made for RVs. A regular car battery will wear out prematurely from the discharge/charging cycles but a deep cycle is made to do that. It should last you 4-5 years if you maintain it properly.
Have your local RV or trailer dealer check the charging system. You definitely want to be sure your tow vehicle is capable of charging the battery. The older ones may not be set up for it, but it is not hard to wire it up that way.
