Question: what light bulbs should i use on my photography light tent?
i am just a beginner, so please give me ideas on the bulbs i should be using. (how many watts, and what brands work best for you). thanks
Answer: For daylight balanced film, you can use a standard grow bulb, like you would use for indoor plants, however the color temperature will still be a bit warm. Depending on the size of the tent, 60-100 watts will probably be enough to keep shutter speeds up when using small apertures for adequate Depth of Field on a table top sized tent or copy stand. If you find the images too warm, purchase a pale blue filter from a camera supply store to counteract the warm yellow/orange color cast.
You can use a standard light bulb and shoot tungsten balanced film…or
If your shooting digital, set your in camera white balance to “incandescent” (check your instruction manual) and use regular light bulbs. Again, if the image is still too yellow/orange, you can set a manual white balance in camera, or use minor filtration.
If your a beginner, you may not want to be messing around with post capture conversions necessary with RAW capture, and indeed you may need to purchase a software program specifically for RAW conversion. ( again, you have indicated your a beginner, so I’ll assume you don’t have such software )
I use standard incandescent light bulbs and a Tiffen 82A filter on my copy stand, with good results.
Good luck, hope this helps…!!!

Question: photography lamps, lights, and store the light?I work at the facility in a major teaching hospital and one of my most fun but challanging, tasks is to maintain a database of every instrument and set of instruments used in all our surgical units. So, my "issues" are everything from hip and back great little tools, instruments of microscopic eye. I am not professional, but I learned a lot of road-and-error. My boss has given me a clear photoboard, nonwhite, aborbing background light, but the lamps have given me are terrible! They are all different forms, so we ended up with three "blobs" of light around the board, and different degrees of ugly gold-tone shades in between. Could be the type of lightbult in the lamps? Moreover, these instruments refelct light like crazy, so I ask my employer to buy me a shop light, or three "real" photography lights with some kind of softening light filter? Or perhaps both?
Answer: See if you can get something to promote the light, maybe some opaque plexi glass .. or a blank screen to put in front of lights .. try fishing the lights a bit so that the main focus of the next light is slighly object .. You can also try using reflected light, bouncing the light off something white on the sides of the object.

Question: Does anyone have plans on how to build a photo light box for taking pictures of products to sell on Ebay?
I’m looking for the plans to light-tent for taking Ebay item photos for my Ebay listings.
Thanks!
Answer: A simple light tent involves getting any material that is transluscent. From there, yuo either construct one conical in nature, with a small hole in front cout out for the lens, or a cubical light tent wuth the transluscent material being on the back and sides and your camera can be in front.
For the cube version, you need to cover the front of the tent and put a hole for the camera if you’re photographing highly reflective or specular objects (or use the cone variant).
The size and shape of your tent should be determined by the objects you plan to photograph and how reflective they are.
See links to websites or forums that explain how people built their tent.
(First Link has explicit instructions to building a sample light tent)
