Question: voigtlander bessa-r lenses?

Just bought a voightlander bessa R and I’m a bit confused as to what lenses i can put on it.

I believe leica thread mounts will fit but what others will?

thanks!
warren

Answer: The Bessa R uses a “39mm Leica Screw Mount, compatible with any standard Leica Screw Mount lens, whether made by Leica, Nikon, Canon, Voigtlander or whoever. Full rangefinder coupling — so long as the lens is rangefinder coupled.”

http://www.cameraquest.com/voigrf.htm

So, Leica screw mount lenses. (Newer Leica M and R mount lenses are incompatible.) There’s vintage Russian stuff – old and iffy quality control from the factory, modern Cosina Voigtlander lenses, etc. Depending on the focal length(s) you want and your budget, you could go in a 100 different directions. Presumably you bought the camera to use with original Leica lenses, but even here there’s lots of homework to do.

Question: What is the least threatening-looking camera?

I want to follow in the footsteps of H. Cartier-Bresson and capture the moment decisive. I think I'll be more likely to do this if I do not use a device that resembles a bazooka! I know HC-B used a Leica, but they are a little spendy for me. I have compiled a list of cameras at affordable prices which I hope will not scare the bejeezus out of the local population. The only criterion? Must be 35mm * FILM * and have interchangeable lenses. What would you choose? Or none of the above? 1. Voigtlander Bessa R3A … Gray 2. Nikon F80 … black (can not find one silver) 3. Oly OM-2 … Chrome 4. Minolta CL / CLE 5. Contax G-2 TIA for your help!

Answer: No, go for a brownie box! They will never see it coming .. snicker snicker.

Question: Are the Japanese Brands (Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Etc.) any good?

Are they as good as my Swedish Hasselblad 503cw with Danish Phaseone p45 back and German-made Zeiss Glass?

And also my 35mm Leica MP and Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH Lens?

The Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH is considered the best 50mm lens by the way.
Is a Nikon any better than a Lomo?

Answer: They’re not designed to be as good as a Hasselblad. Canon, Nikon and so on are in the consumer camera business not the very high level pro side.

Although they do make cameras that many pros use, Hasselblad, as I think you already know, is a camera designed for the very high level pro who can then charge very large prices for their work.

Question: What is the best old style film camera to buy?

I am looking to take some pictures that look like they are from the end of the top 70 80. I bought some old film kodakrome and now have a camera. I like taking photos but the lens R3 Leica 50mm Summilux is too expensive. Are there any other good old film cameras like the Leica images not?

Answer: If you can beat Olympus 35mm SLR, I would like to know why. They have been manufacturing more cameras from Canon or Nikon and I have used for over 40 years. I still using cameras made in 1967 – every day.
