Question: Jewelery Photography Tips?
I am online seller, I have Nikon D60 SLR with VR 18-55mm Lens 1:3.5-5.6G. & Tripod. I have light tent also and 55 watt two fluorescent Lamps. I am first time with DSLR camera.. I am confused about settings.. Please help me for best sttings for Jewelry photography.
Please advise that how I can get sharp focus without having Macro lens.
Thanks.
Answer: You have made a good start with the tent and lamps - this should give you a nice diffuse light and a shadow free image with a plain background. Do not use flash - it will reflect off the object causing white patches on the image.
The camera should be mounted on the tripod. You should use a cable release to prevent nudging the camera when taking the shot. If you do not have a cable release, set the timer before taking the shot - this allows you to move your hands away from the camera and any wobbles to settle down.
Always use the highest quality setting for your images. You can reduce the image size later, but you cannot put back information that isn't there.
Most cameras do not take the best images with their aperture wide open. The aperture controls the amount of light let into the camera by the lens. On your lens it will be f/3.5 at 18mm focal length and f/5.6 at 55mm, and will vary in between. On most lenses the sharpest image is found at f/8 to f/11.
You should set your camera into the semi-automatic mode that allows you to control aperture. As a Canon user I do not know what this setting is on Nikons. Set the aperture to f/8, and the camera will automatically set the shutter speed.
One problem you may encounter is depth of field. This is the distance away from the camera that is in focus. A large aperture (small number) gives a short depth of field meaning some of your object may be out of focus. Reducing the aperture (larger f number) increases the depth of field. This may be important for something like a necklace, but less so for earings.
You may find that when you view the full size image on your computer, it may be a little over or under exposed. This can either be adjusted in Photoshop, or better still by adjusting the camera settings. Since you will probably be doing this at home, try setting up the tent next to your computer. You can then shoot images straight to the PC using the supplied software, and see them at full resolution immediately.
You may also have a problem with the focal length of your lens. It may be necessary to buy a larger zoom lens to get close enough to get a good image. Alternatively you can buy extension tubes that fit between the camera and lens. This moves the lens further away from the sensor making the image bigger.

Question: What bulb should I use on my tent light photography?I am a beginner, so please give me some ideas on the bulbs i use. (How many watts, and what brands work best for you). thanks
Answer: To balance daylight film, you can use to develop a standard bulb, as you would for indoor plants, but the temperature Color will always be a bit hot. Depending on the size of the tent, 60-100 watts is probably enough to keep shutter speeds when using small openings for adequate depth of field on a table tent larger or copy media. If you find images that are too hot, buy a blue filter pale with a camera supply store to counter the warm yellow / orange color cast. You can use a conventional bulb and shoot tungsten film Balanced ... or if your shooting digital, set your camera white balance in incandescent "(check your Instruction Manual) and use bulbs. Again, if the image is too yellow / orange, you can set a manual white balance in camera, or use limited filtration. If your a beginner, you do not want to be messing with the necessary conversions after capture with RAW capture, well you can need to buy software specifically for RAW conversion. (Again, you said your a beginner, so I guess you do not the software) I use standard incandescent bulbs and a Tiffen 82A filter my copy stand with good results. Good luck, hope this helps ...!!!

Question: polaroid cam helpppppp?
the flash in my polaroid hasn't been working lately.
i'm suspecting the bulb.is there a generic bulb used for polaroids?
if not does anyone know the bulb for the Polaroid OneStep closeup w/ macro?Answer: The flash tube in a camera is not user servicable.
If that doesn't put you off make sure you read up on the hazards.
The tube uses a very high voltage and the charge is held in a capacitor. Even without batteries a flash circuit can be lethal.

Question: In the market for a digital camera with a specific function - close-ups. What function should I look?I want to close to make bugs, flowers, coins, etc. In addition to an expensive SLR camera with macro lens, or whatever, would be an everyday digital camera with a specific function satisfies my need? Thanks.
Answer: Most of the cameras today have a feature called "macro mode" specifically close-ups of small objects. This feature comes in the camera, built without the need for additional external lenses. I have a Canon S2 IS with "macro mode" and "super-macro mode. With Super Macro mode as close as I can give one centimeter from the subject rather impressive results. But indoor conditions at close The camera tends to block the light on the subject. Ideally you would use the built-in flash, but this is an evil shadow of the long tracking occupation snout, the irritated. Under these conditions, you can use an external flash. But I do personally prefer not to add-ons, so I increased the light sensitivity of the camera sensor called by an increase, which is like the ISO number. An ISO setting of up to 400 should expect a decent camera. You must keep in mind that the increasing number ISO also makes the images look grainy, it's a balancing act. I would say - Go for a camera with super macro mode "function - with higher ISO sensitivity (minimum of ISO 400) - A high resolution (greater than 5 mega pixels) should also practically - Search for "Macro Photography" You find a lot of DIY kits for Macro Photography, if you have not already done so. - Many camera review websites and macro mode as a parameter of comparison. So go through it before on a camera.
