Question: How to take higher quality photos with a digital camera?

Hi, We take photos for our online clothing store – mainly of models wearing T-shirts. However, the quality of the photos arn’t great. We use good lighting – professional photography lights with white light x 2 on each side (they don’t flash or anything though).

The skin of the model always seems to come out great quality, but the actual fabric of the T-shirt is a bit grainy especially on darker coloured tees.

We just use a standard digital camera. Is there a setting that can be changed to increase the quality? Or do we need a different kind of camera? We want the same professional quality as the big online stores have.

Many thanks!

Answer: If you’re using a point-and-shoot camera you should set the ISO as low as possible.

That may mean you’ll have to use more powerful lights to get a proper exposure.

If you are already shooting at the lowest ISO, you should consider purchasing a DSLR.

But don’t shell out for one until you have tried the above.

Hope this helps.

Question: What lights to buy to photograph my paintings?

I have a Canon XTi and a tripod, but I definitely light sources needs updating. I'm thinking about going ahead and buying only some professional photography lighting. Could someone give me an idea of what I look for? I really did not have much money to spend on these, but it is vital to me that my paintings photograph accurately. I have an exhibition in September and would like offer prints of my work …… that actually looks like my work! Thank you! Kimberly I appreciate the idea of supporting the photo, but my work is large scale, so do not think support that would work.

Answer: A process camera would be your best option to copy it to a plate, depending on the technique could be the same size as the original. I've never seen a digital processing camera myself, but that does not mean they do not exist. I've been out of such work for years as people have no process chambers, but sitting around you can have a custom lab nearby that can do this. If you want to do with your DSLR follow FoToZ 4 FX s advice and use a copystand. Another option would be a high quality scanner large bed for small works of art of a desktop scanner normally used with good teams can work and added: If your job is too big for any of these you may consider riding the camera on a tripod and making sure their work is parallel to and with or without shadows ringlight photos
