Canon Vixia HF S200

Answer: Your list looks fine, but I agree with Iridflare, you need a LCD hood. The link below has one by Canon. It will fit just about any screen (it uses flaps that fold over and stick together with velcro). You will also want to use a tripod at times. One with a smooth panning head. You may also consider using an external microphone. The on-board mic will pick up sound from just about all directions (omnidirectional) and thus record much unwanted sound. But a mic with a cardioid (or shotgun) pick up pattern will be better. For example, the sound of a truck or jeep roaring up a hill of dirt or rocks will make for appeasing audio in your video..

Question: I bought a Canon 50D, and is likely to upgrade to the 5D mark II then ….?

… Should I invest EF or EF-S? The EF lenses i am looking at are the 28-135mm and 70-300mm. They come in a kit with the 50D, but do not include a hood or an extra battery. Both have the stabilization image. The EF-S lens I'm looking at is a 18-200mm. It also has image stabilization. It comes in a kit with the 50D which includes a hood and an extra battery. Lens of 18-200 will not work on the 5D mark II if I decided to improve in 3-4 years. Should I get the EF with the intention of using the 5D mark II, or is smart buy the 18-200mm EF-S lens and just upgrade to the 5D mark II and buy a new lens later? They are too amateurish EF lens for use in the mark 5D II? THANKS!

Answer: Look in the mirror and ask yourself this tough question: Is a full frame camera (or more directly, not APS-C) in the near future or that "someday I hope to have a" future? If this is the first, then I would stay with EF and would a bias towards the quality of glass L. If the latter, then EF-S is the way forward. So far, the optical quality of the EF-S lenses has far exceeded the quality of some the best non-L EF lenses. For example, my EF-S 17-55 has better optical qualities of my old (and rarely used) EF 28-135. I have a 50D with two lenses that use 99% of the time. 90% of the time it is an EF-S 17-55/2.8 and almost the rest of time is a 70-200/2.8 EF. Portraits, family and the landscape are what I'm taking.

Question: What’s wrong with my Nikon SB-600 Speedlight?

Alright, so occasionally, I’ll push the shutter release button on my Nikon D80 down half way (to focus) and two extremely intense, circular red lights appear in the red LED section of the front of my SB-600. These seem to be the same lights that blink when it’s in wireless mode but they look much brighter and also seem to be rectangular in some way. I’m also noticing my flash has very long cooldown when fired at full power and sometimes, even at non-fullpower, I’ll fire it and it will have trouble firing repetitively. I also turned the camera off while it was connected to the hotshoe and the flash didn’t go into standby mode like it normally does. I lost the cap to my hotshoe, and the contacts look fine and everything, but I think it might be a connection error. However, the flash still seems to fire successfully most of the time?

Answer: As others have said the red light is the AF assit illuminator it make focusing in low light much miuch faster. Its a good thing. Yes its also used to tranmit information along with pre-flashes in the CLS. If you want to turn off the AF illuminator its on the customs settings on page 52 of your manual. but I would really recommend leaving it on.

When you say the speedlight will not fire repeatedly I have to ask what camera you are shooting with. Some of them limit continuous or burst mode when using speedlight. Fresh, quality batteries and using the additional battery chamber will decrease flash cycle time.. The SB-800 lets you add another battery ( in the Quick Recycle Battery Pack SD-800 (for one R6 (AA) – size battery) To get better performance. try batteries other than alkaline and make sure all the batteries are the same type. Here are the listed recytling times
Nickel 2.5 sec. .
NiCd (1000 mAh) (rechargeable) 2.9 sec.
Ni-MH (2000 mA) (rechargeable) 2.5 sec.
Alkaline-manganese 3.5 sec.
Lithium 4.0 sec.
I am not aware of an auxillary batery pack for the SB-600

As to the standby mode check you settings on that you can change them on that flash. Standby function is in the Custom Settings mode (p. 52 of your manual).

I hope this helps

Question: Can you use a / Canon Nikon front lens cap on a Sony A200, if the size is the same (49mm, 55mm, etc.)?

I need to have front lens caps for some of my goals Sony A200 and was wondering if the cheaper Canon / Nikon front lens cap would be appropriate. Minolta / Sony plugs are more expensive because fewer people use them. Thanks in advance !!!!!!

Answer: Of course you can until size is the same thing you can use any!
