Question: Best tripod options for lightweight travelling with a DSLR?

Hi,

I usually bring my Manfrotto tripod on my trips, put it in my suitcase and then strap it to my day bag where I go out. But this time I’ll be travelling fairly light through cities and forests with a backpack. I’ve tried the Joby Gorilla pod but I didn’t like how long it took to set up for it every time. It needs to have some sort of quick release to be useful.

Any recommendations on good travel tripods? I even thought of doing the bean bag thing.

My biggest lens is an 18-270 Tamron, fairly heavy, fairly long. (1.3lbs, 550g) and a small Nikon D60. So the total weight would be under 3lbs.

Answer: The best thing to do is visit your local camera shops and try all the different ones. I tried a dozen or so combinations before I found the best tripod and head for me. You can’t always tell how well a tripod works/feels by just looking at pictures online.
