Question: A serious PHOTOGRAPHER’s question about FILM… ?
(Remember film?) What do you use, if any, in 120 and 220 roll format, and why? Any special tricks or special results to try for? I have tried Kodak Portra 400VC (I like it for colored lights), Kodak Portra 400NC, and I have some Fuji 160, Fuji 400, and Kodak Ektar 100. I have a Yashica Mat 124G but plan on saving the new (non-expired) stuff for a Rolleiflex 6008 integral 2 with 80mm Planar PQ lens with 120 back – I don’t have it yet but its coming. I also would like to get some recommendations on a protective filter for that lens – I don’t want to take it anywhere until I have one. I plan on trying shooting slide film and getting it digitally scanned too. Thanks!!!
Answer: Slide film is awesome when done properly. Not so much when the exposure’s off. That being said I like Fuji Velvia and Kodak’s E100. Velvia for landscapes with that super color look, E100 for everything else.
I’ve heard rumor that Fuji is cutting quite a bit of film from it’s lineup. I don’t recall which ones and I’m not trying to be an alarmist but you may want to make sure that the film is around if you get hooked on it. Kodak tends to discontinue one film and introduce another.
Ektar is my favorite film, though I’ve seen people have issues with it, and I’ve had issues from time to time as well but never from a lab that I know keeps their chemicals fresh.
The Yashicamat that I used to own was softer than I cared for. Possibly needed some attention but it came from the first owner and he was a rather elderly gentleman that I didn’t get the impression that he abused his gear.
Rollei’s of course are what all other TLRs are measured against. If you find something better it truly is a fine camera.
For black and white I like T-max and Plus-X (Kodak), and Ilford Pan F Plus for going slow.
Sorry for rambling, I do that sometimes.

Question: I want a good SLR like digital camera that has underwater housing?
The Olympus SP 550 UZ is 545 GBP (both camera and housing) but gets mixed reviews. !!!
Does this come with a wide angle lens as standard??
The Canon S3 – IS looks great but the housing is the very professional 60 meter version and very expensive 500 GBP
Does anyone know if Canon is planning a 40 meter housing? like with the S1 – IS?I love the Fuji Fine pixs 9500 looks hot but can’t find a housing for it
(
Will they be planning one?
I’m willing to spend 600 on it allAll SLR cameras are too expensive and too professional (me being a amatuer)
I want good zoom, wide angle and macro (lens?)I have a great compact for compact occasions but the housings have been discontinued and besides i want to treat myself to a really good camera for my diving and arty pics.
Is their a good place to talk to divers who might have these cameras so i can talk to people like me?
Any advice greatly appreciated people cheers?
Answer: I used to use a housing with my 35mm on photo dives. Most housings are pricy. Additionally most of your better pictures are obtained from shallower depths. I.E. lighting and color is not degraded. Although I’m a Nikon fan, Olympus makes a VERY interesting compact 7.1MP camera that takes video as well as stills. this camera is waterproof down to 33′ and cost less than $ 400.00. Heres the link

Question: about 58mm lenses for Fuji HS10?I have recently completed a couple of cheap lenses for my Fuji HS10, that has a 58mm thread (wide angle bought lens and a telephoto lens), but they just will not cut. I'm not a bottomless pit of money, but I now realize I need to pay a little extra to the quality I want to. Any ideas on what are good value for money, that fits my camera? I am relatively new to photography and I'm not sure that Canon, Sony etc my lens FujiFilm fit, even if they share the same thread size, ideally I want a 2x teleconvertor and a decent wide angle lens. Some decent macro lenses not go a miss would not. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Yes, it is the HS10. It is a lens with fixed focal length but has a 58 mm thread, that certain Lens types (ie wide angle lenses, fisheye and telephoto lenses screw on) are accepted, but I do not know if all types such as Nikon, Pentax, etc. fit the thread.
Answer: The HS-10 is not an interchangeable lens camera. Are you sure that you have the correct model number? Either way its usually best to Canon, Nikon, Sony or Pentax remain only because the variety of lenses available for them. The "lenses" are acting to screw on to the filter threads between the same the brands, as long as you get the right size (58mm) are. As long as you get tele-converter and fisheye attachments, the themes to 58mm, you should be okay.
