Question: Flash radio trigger/receiver says max sync is 1/125s focal plane and 1/250s leaf shutter. WHAT IS THIS?
Triggering delay 1/1600 second, max sync speed is 1/125s for focal plane shutter and 1/250s for leaf shutter
my new radio trigger/receiver says max sync is 1/125s so I set it at 1/125s that I understand What I dont know is what is leaf shutter and 1/250s . ok ok, what is focal plane too
Answer: It means that if you try to sync a slave flash with the radio controller, you cannot use a shutter speed faster than 1/125th of a second. The maximum sync speed of the camera itself doesn’t have anything to do with it, unless even 1/125th is above the max sync speed of the camera.
The radio poppers cause a slight delay in the flash cycle, that is why they give you that limitation.
Every SLR camera has a max sync speed, ranging from 1/125th for Sony with Steady Shot active, up to 1/500th as mentioned above. This is for a focal plane shutter, which is right in front of the (here it comes!) focal plane. It is a permanent part of the camera. The focal plane is where the lens forms the (hopefully) focused image to be recorded.
Some cameras use lenses that have the shutter in the lens itself, mostly large format stuff. A leaf shutter generally has no “max sync speed” and will allow sync at any speed it can manage. Again, the delay mentioned is due to the radio poppers being introduced into the chain.

Question: will this work with my lenses?
Asked this in photography and still no answers I thought I would try here
I have a tamron 70-300mm lens and a nikkor 18-55mm lens will this tele-converter mount them both and still auto focus with my D40?
http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Optic-Multi-Coated-Tele-Converter-Autofocus-Shutterbug/dp/B000NVO7K0/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&s=photo&qid=1241408482&sr=1-13
Answer: It might, but the cons will make it not worth it. First of all with a 2x teleconverter you loose 2 whole f stops, that means your 70-300 f/4-5.6 becomes an f/5.6-8 and your 18-55 become an f?-8. Secondly you will most definitely loose AF or on the off chance its still there it will be terribly slow. The viewfinder will be dimmer and taking action shots or even having a fast enough shutter speed to counteract camera shake is going to be difficult at 300mm in all but the best lighting conditions. Now for image quality. Even the Canon and Nikon 2x teleconverters used with top of the line glass produce iffy results, never mind a third party low end zoom with an off brand very cheap teleconverter. You are going to most likely see an incredible loss of image quality along with increased amounts of chromatic aberration. My advice in case you havent guessed is save your money. And again all this is assuming it even works with both those lenses which it may not. If you are going to use teleconverters stick to 1.4x and good brands such as Nikon or Kenko in your case. First make sure though that your lenses are compatible. Teleconverters are best used with prime lenses and high quality zooms like the 70-200 f/2.8. Sorry, but I would rather you saved your money, than ended up with a product that if it works is going to be very unsatisfactory.

Question: Are these goals compatible with Canon Rebel XSi?I have a Canon lens FD 50mm 1:1.8 lens, SC, and a 2x Auto Tele Converter who worked on a Canon AE-1. Do these work on a Canon Rebel XSi? Thanks!
Answer: It's not really worth trying to use your old manual focus FD lenses on an XSi (which has an excellent autofocus system.) You can buy an adapter to be compatible, but at the expense image quality. Seriously, if you want a 50mm lens … you can buy the EF 50 mm f/1.8 for less than U.S. $ 90. Everything is like a toy and plasticky, but it has strong image quality. I have the XSi (450D), I get that and that (performance so far). ps happy not forget that due to the field of 1.6x crop factor view on the XSi and Canon similar models (excluding full-frame) a 50mm lens actually becomes a 80mm lens and a 100 mm lens becomes in a 160 mm lens etc etc
