Question: 50mm prime lens owners: Do you use a hood to help reduce flare???

1) If the lens is recessed deep enough, is a hood/shade still necessary to reduce flare? Or is it more for protective means?

2) Also, when you use a filter such as a UV or skylight on a 50mm that is recessed, only then is a hood necessary, as the filter adds another element to the front?

Answer: I used a 50mm lens for many years without a hood. I had a small rubber hood, but never saw the need to use it, even when using filters. Hoods are most useful on wide angle lenses, or any time you shoot towards bright light sources. It’s all up to you. If you have glare, use a hood. If you don’t, you’re good.

Question: Where can I buy a filter case separately?

I want to buy a case of 62 mm for the case of a protective filter for my DSLR. Something like this: # http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hoya-HD-UV-62mm-Digital-Filter-/160427652592?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CamerasPhoto_CameraAccessories_CameraLensesFilters_JN&hash=item255a3bb5f0 ht_2336wt_1165 But without a filter. I tried Jessops, and go in a couple of camera shops tomorrow if I still have no joy, thanks, Dan http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hoya-HD-UV-62mm-Digital-Filter- / 160427652592? cmd = ViewItem UK_CamerasPhoto_CameraAccessories_CameraLensesFilters_JN & pt = & hash = # item255a3bb5f0 ht_2336wt_1165 Sorry, please use this link: http://bit.ly/aNRmvm
