Answer: This is the control switch of the eye – once you calibrate it (the bottom option CAL) advance of the light autofocus points change each time your eye is currently under. It is actually quite reliable, even on the 7th.

Question: Canon EOS-3 vs. Elan 7e?

I have come across both recently and would like to purchase one of the two.

What are some pro’s and con’s of each? And which would you ultimately choose?

Answer: Both are very good cameras, the EOS 3 has a far superior autofocus system with many more points, more points that work up to f8 and, more active points with f2.8 or faster lenses, a faster advance and a more intuitive interface (you can work almost every function of the EOS 3 and EOS 1 series with the camera at your eye)

The 7e will be far less expensive with a very good AF system, if not quite in the class of the EOS 3.

If you do any speciality photography requiring grid screens or fresenel split prism focusing then the EOS 3 has interchangeable screens.

The 3 also has better weather resistance and a faster frame rate.

HOWEVER:

It is film. The two main image quality determinates are:

The quality of the film.

The quality of the lens.

I have a 3 and love it to bits, Its a confidence inspiring camera with substantial build and professional feel, a joy to use.

With the E1 or E2 grip its a dream to use.

I also like the Elan 7e as well though. I would be pretty happy using it as well. For me its the 3, the price is higher, and the handling very very different (better in my opinion) but as handling is a very personal thing, the best you can do is get hands on with both.

Both are very modern 35mm cameras with little to want from either.
It’s going to come down to which interface you get on better with and whether the cost difference is worth it.

You are making a great choice entering the canon system. If you go digital at any point you will find that the systems are largely compatable and similar to use.

Question: I have a Canon EF zoom on my non-digital Canon EOS Elan. Will it fit a Canon D10 digital?

I can buy a canon D10 body only for around 200 dollars .. want to use the lenses I already have

Answer: Yes, he will. I could save up for a bit and get a 20D though. The 10D was in the early days of digital SLR and had many flaws. The 20D fixed many of these defects.
