Question: LG external DVD rewriter?

I just got an LG 8x slim portable external super multi dvd writer for my Dell mini. I’m trying to install it with the install disc, but for some reason the computer won’t let me. I made sure all the cords were plugged in correctly, tried a few different discs, and I tried to run it a few times, but it isn’t working.

Answer: You are trying to install from an external drive, which is not installed yet?
Go to Device manager and see if this external drive is shown there. If it’s there, right click on it and click Delete to uninstall it. Restart computer. Plug the drive in and see if Windows will install the driver WITHOUT a disk. If Windows installs the driver, THEN you can stick a disk in and install some software from it (there should be some DVD creating software there and other junk.)
If this doesn’t work, call LG (you should have free tech support from them) and ask for help.

If you have a SONY HandiCam, you should use it to “erase” the DVD-RW. I learned the hard way.

Use the camcorder to do the erasing.

A computer “can” erase the miniDVD, however, put it back into the HandiCam and it won’t work.

It is just the way it is. I called support and they told that.

Now, maybe Sony wised up and their newer camcorders will work on DVDs that have been erased on a PC. Who knows.

The same may apply for finalizing too. Not sure on that. I could only get the camcorder to finalize a DVD disk.

My wife and I are in the market for a camera video, and we realized that going directly to a DVD in the camera. I heard that they skip and such, so it worth it? Should I get a regular camera digital video?
