Question: Advice on buying a Sony DSLR-A200K Digital SLR Camera?
I have been looking around for a week or so and for the price this camera looks very good but my knowledge of cameras is limited could anyone help or even tell me of a better camera within the price range £200-£300
Answer: Push the boat out a little further and go for a Canon 450D, excellent camera for the money.

Question: Is it a good idea to buy a 6 MP used canon digital SLR camera?
I am an amateur photographer and shoot only occasionally. I don’t want to invest too much money in a new digital SLR, so i thought a used Canon DSLR might be a good alternative. The problem is, that used cameras have much lower megapixels than new ones. Will I get reasonable quality with a 6 MP camera (low noise in night shots, enough details when printing 4″X6″ 5″X7″ photos)?
Answer: I work in a photography and have several canons, one being a canon eos 2000 film and a rebel xs 10 mp. Most people will never use over 5mp which equals about a 8×10 picture with clear detail and no distortion or pixelation. Your camera will do the job and do it well.

Question: Instruction manual for Opteka lens?
Where can I obtain an instruction manual for an Opteka 500mm f/8 Telephoto Mirror Lens used on an Olympus EVOLT E-420 camera? This lens is also used on Olympus E-520, E-510, E-500 and other cameras.
Answer: You don’t need an instruction manual for this lens. This is a manual focusing, fixed focal length and fixed aperture lens. You just have to mount the lens, focus it, set the exposure according to the f/8 aperture and click.
Search for your camera instructions about how to use manual focus lenses with no aperture information being conveyed to the camera. (Search for old manual lenses rather than for mirror lenses and use that same information)
If you have not already bought it, then I suggest not buying this lens. Save some money and buy lenses with glass elements and not mirrors.

Question: Can an olympus Evolt e300 be used for professional portraiture work on a budget ?
this camera is coming with
Zuiko 14 – 45mm f/3.5-5.6 Digital Lens
Zuiko 40 – 150mm f/3.5-4.5 Digital Lens
Flash is an Olympus FL-36can this combo be used to produce quality portraiture work ? I wont be using it to shoot action or anything like that. Everything its used for will be in controlled lighting either inside or outside the studio. I appreciate your help. Most thorough answer gets the win.
I also have an option to get a
Nikon D70S W/ 18-70mm kit lens for about the same price. Would this be better buy / option ?
PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION. WOULD THE NIKON D70S WITH THE LENS BE A BETTER BUY THAN THIS OLYMPUS E300 WITH THE LENSES AND THE FLASH ?Answer: Of course- Olympus has excellent image quality. Learn to use your lighting correctly (reflectors, diffusion, etc) and you’ll be OK to start with. And I have to disagree with the answerer who said the 14-45 is all you need. I think you need the 40-150 for portraits. The reason is that classic portrait length for head-and-shoulders work is 105mm, so at your sensor’s crop factor, the 45mm only equals 90 on a 35mm camera- just at the short end of acceptable ; the lens may distort the features slightly. You’d want to shoot your longer lens at 52-65m. Also, the 14-45 is too short to effectively create background bokeh- another reason why pros use telephotos for portraits; separating the subject from the background is usually essential for successful portraits. (long lens plus wide aperture equals out of focus backgrounds) I used to shoot an E-510, and noticed that the 2X crop factor of the 4/3 sensor made it more difficult to achieve good bokeh.
Like anything else, portrait work is all about lighting, so any quality camera with the right focal length will do nicely. It’s not the camera, it’s the photographer.
EDIT- to answer your question in one word, “YES”. To answer it in many…
The E300 is now 5-year old technology, which is forever in digital. Not that the D70 is new, (same year, I think…) but it’s a better camera. I found that my Olympus E510 was amazing in good light, but once I git beyond ISO 400 in dim light, it was really noisy. However, the Oly lenses are much sharper than the D70′s kit lens; Oly has the sharpest kit lenses around. But with proper technique, any lens is a good lens. The thing about the D70 is that there is MUCH more available as far as lenses and other accessories, and it’s got a larger sensor.
If I were you on a budget for portraits, I’d buy the D70, and get some used studio strobes off Craigslist or Ebay or at a local photography store that sells good used gear. Forget the dedicated camera flash units- they’ll cost you a lot for a little. Great to carry around, but you say you’re doing studio portraits, right? More power and less money with a strobe set-up, and then you can spend the extra on reflectors, stands, backgrounds, diffusion, etc. Here, read this:http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/strobes.htm
and:
comparisons of the two on DP review:http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/olympuse300/page17.asp
the D70 is clearly much cleaner.

Unless you plan on blowing up big prints, the extra 2MP of the Oly is not a factor- especially considering its noise issues.

BTW, there’s a reason why almost no pros shoot Olympus… I’m not saying there’s really anything wrong with them, as I took thousands of great shots with mine (before I uh, sold it to move to Nikon), but Canon and Nikon just make superior cameras. I now shoot a D90.
