Question: Is it possible to use a digital camera to calibrate the color balance of a TV?If I color balance of digital camera to daylight (6500K) will that allow me to properly calibrate the color balance of my TV taking pictures of a shade of gray on the TV screen using a digital camera?
Answer: Using a digital camera instead of a measure of the appropriate color does not work when it comes to all aspect of the calibration screen-based instruments. Display calibration based instruments is designed to precisely adjust colorimetry white dot on a generally predetermined multiple shades of gray. A digital camera simply can not fulfill this fundamental step necessary to calibrate a display device. Good color measuring devices can be obtained at a reasonable price. A tristimulus colorimeter very effective, that performs as well as some professional cameras that cost several orders of magnitude higher, is the i1Display 2 X-Rite (formerly GretagMacbeth). ________________________ CIE standard illuminant D65 is the industry standard accepted worldwide reference point for white video screens, including HDTV. (Note:. A CCT of 5400 K is the accepted standard in the industry for monitors used in graphic arts applications) for movies and video applications D65 should always be the reference point calibration target to ensure accurate color reproduction, not the value derived from the CCT 6500 K. In the field of colorimetry and color 6500 K science is considered a "color temperature" and is represented in the color space to two dimensions, also known as a diagram CIE chromaticity, with a straight line, especially isotemperature a "line" that passes transversely through a point on the Planck (aka black) locus. Any pair chromaticity coordinates along the 6500 K isotemperature, regardless of visual difference, will produce a corresponding CCT of about 6500 K (even if only one pair of coordinates will be closer to the ideal point source D65.) D65, as a reference point and not a specific line, is a target and much more precise-is preferred for the display calibration accuracy, as opposed to a potentially infinite number coordinates along a line. Question: Any tips for quickly shooting with bounce flash and DSLR camera?
I frequently miss the shots i am trying to get when shooting indoors with a Hot Shoe Flash. i spend too much time trying to position my flash to bounce in the right direction and cant get the candid shot i was looking for. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Answer: There are a multitude of solutions for making bounce flash easier. Most methods involve purchasing add-on diffusion and deflection products for your external flash such as "a better bounce card" or the Demb flip-it. These are relatively affordable and rather bulky but do a good job of providing diffused light. Alternatively, you may want to contact a company that has designed a built in automated bounce flash system. I think it should take all the trial and error out of bounce flash. It doesnt look like they are in the market now but they may be able to tell you when they are expected to be available.
