Question: digital camera picture quality choices?

on my digital camera (sony cybershot DSC-W80) i can choose from several image quality choices. which one should i choose?
7M – i can take up to 310 pics.
3:2 – i can take up to 310 pics.
5M – i can take up to 387 pics.

VGA – i can take up to 5970 pics.

i had it set to VGA because it can store the most pictures but i printed a picture recently on the digital camera picture printer thing and it was a little grainy.
which would be the best choice? i dont need SUPER good high quality pictures but i dont want them grainy.

Answer: For higher quality shots select the 5mp or 7mp setting. Those will produce good quality prints, even at larger sizes. The 3mp could work if you only plan to print smaller pics. The 3:2 and 16:9 are aspect ratios, the camera shoots in 4:3 natively. The 3:2 will correspond perfectly to 4X6 prints and is slightly smaller in dimensions than the normal 7mp images. the 16:9 is for viewing on a widescreen HD-TV and is a 2mp image. When shown on the TV the images will appear crisp and clear.

The battery for your camera is good for about 348 pictures on a single charge, selecting the 5mp or one of the 7 mp settings would give you great looking images and not be too taxing on the battery.

VGA images are really small and don’t print well. That’s the one setting you should avoid. You also shouldn’t keep all of your pictures on that card. If something happens, and it often does, you will lose everything at one time. Just take a look at all the people asking how to recover their lost images.

Question: How many megapixels are needed in a point and shoot camera?

I've been looking at two new cameras to target and shoot – the Sony DSC-TX7 and Canon Powershot S90. But strangely, both models is only 10 megapixels, while the cameras cost more than many others are characterized by 12.14 megapixels. I know you can not only consider the number of megapixels, but why is this the case?

Answer: Many people are drawn into the game mega pixels. Even with a digital SLR, more than 8.2MP not really make a noticeable difference in the image unless printing in large format. Still, 8.2MP 13×19 print well in without noticeable loss. What matters is the size of the sensor. To answer your question, a point and-shoot camera 10MP is more than you really need a p & s camera, the reason for the difference in costs is likely that the sensor size difference and characteristics. Although you'll pay a bit extra for the name of Canon, it's worth it because of the longevity of the Canons in the camera industry.
