Question: How do I get videos from my Canon miniDV cassette onto the computer?
Answer: From the cassette, you'll need:
1) A MiniDV player or camcorder.
2) A FireWire (also known as DV, iLink, IEEE1394) cable.
3) A FireWire port on your computer.
4) Video capture software (it's a feature of most video editing programs). If you don't have the FireWire port on your computer, you can purchase a FireWire card. One is the ADS Pyro (NOT the ADS Pyro A/V Link, that's a converter). That one runs about $30.
SOME newer camcorders do support USB 2.0 video transfer, but ALL support FireWire. If you have a camcorder that supports this new feature, you may use it if a USB port on your computer supports USB 2.0.
You will also need software that can capture video.

Question: How to Remove Stuck MiniDv Cassette from Canon Elura Camcorder?
Subject says it all really... I have a Canon Elura camcorder which plays/records on MiniDv cassettes. One of the tapes is now stuck in the cassette sleeve. I can open the compartment to remove the cassette, yet it doesn't activate and open... it only "whirs" for a second or two and then stops. Any suggestions or quick fixes? Much thanks!
Answer: Have you tried to give the metal case a gentle tap sometimes the carrier just get stuck, and that can free it. anything you do to the carrier must be very gentle, as you can easily damage it, and that can cost a fair amount of money to fix.
you need to check to see if the tape is wrapped around the rollers/head, if it is you may have to free it, but again this must be done VERY VERY gently, making sure you do not scratch the heads in anyway, you may loose way it on the tape you damage but you can splice it together to capture everything else. only try this if you ore confident enough to have a go, if not then you should get it looked at.
just a gently tap may fix it.
Wish you luck

Question: Changing DPI or MP settings on the Canon Powershot A1100 Digital Camera?
Does anyone know how to adjust (if that's possible) the DPI or MegaPixel settings on the Canon Powershot A1100 Series digital camera? Someone said there should be a setting somewhere with 'high,' 'medium,' or 'low' on it, or something like that. Thanks!
Answer: Whenever I have a question/problem such as yours, I read the user's guide (aka "the manual").
It is amazing just how much I always learn from that.If that doesn't help (or if I'm interested in a product I don't own), I check the manufacturer's website.
They have descriptions and specs for their gadgets, often have user forums, and the decent manufacturers all let you download the manuals in electronic form (so losing the book is no longer a problem).99% of the time that does the trick.
Make sure to always set your camera to best quality (i.e. lowest compression rate) and biggest size (highest resolution).
The reasons for that include:
1) If you have a good, large photo, you can crop it more later on without losing too much detail if you really have to.
2) If you happen to take the best photo you ever took, you'll be able to print it at a large size. If you lowered size and quality, you'd be kicking yourself.
3) If you decide later you really don't want to keep a big file, it is very easy to down-size it in post processing - but you can't go the other way, you can't invent pixels that weren't there in the first place.
4) Memory cards are cheap, so are bigger hard drives. There is NO reason to do anything less than the best.

Question: How do I use the movie mode in my Canon A70 powershot digital camera?
I'm away in another country and don't have my user manual. Can anyone tell me how to use the "movie mode" feature in my Canon A70Powershot digital camera? I know to turn the wheel to the movie camera selection of course, but then I believe there are a couple of steps to initiate and then stop the movie taking mode, -thanks for any help!
Answer: Yes, you need to turn the mode dial to the little movie camera icon...and then you simply press the shutter button half way down to get your exposure, white balance and focus settings...then press it all the way down to start recording.
And just press the shutter button again to stop recording.
