Answer: If you have a FireWire port on your computer (or if you're ready to add one if necessary), better video quality comes from miniDV tape camcorders storage base in DV format on tape. All easily accessible video editing applications can import and edit DV. In-format high definition HDV, most publishers can manage this too. If you have only USB, the mid-range hard disk or flash memory camcorders deliver the next better video quality. The MPEG2 has more than DV, hence the reduced quality. On the side hidef, AVCHD is not up its popularity and while some video applications can support this method of compression, they could not handle all the cameras that store using AVCHD. AVCHD compresses too. The trick is to compress the least possible during the capture process - then compress what you want to tail. When you compress front, all the video (and sometimes audio) is lost and unrecoverable. Based DVD camcorders are simply a bad idea and should not be sold. Existing DVD camcorders should be noted, recycled and people who bought them should get their money. Since you do not tell us your budget or what you plan to shoot, it is difficult to recommend a particular pair of cameras. Other factors to consider: micro-IN, manual audio controls ... among others ...
