Answer: Hi John,

I have used a number of different aftermarket batteries for Olympus E1, E3 & E500 with varying degrees of performance/success.
The two things I think you need to consider are what camera model & charger you have and the specifications/quality of the replacement units.

The latest models of the E-Series use newer more efficient battery designs but the E-3 was supplied with the original BLM-1 battery used in most of the models from the E-1 forward. I have had the best results using “PROMASTER” brand 7.2V/1500 mAh/Li-Ion batteries, which sell for about 60% of the price of an Olympus Brand battery but appear to have the proper “on board” circuitry and excellent performance characteristics. I currently have at least four of these batteries in use for over a year and they are the battery I prefer to have in my E-3.

PROMASTER is a brand sold in the North American market, primarily by camera specialty stores. If you need to find a source for them I would suggest going to this link and then contact a dealer from the web site. I believe the local dealers will sell them at a considerably greater discount than if you buy them directly because PROMASTER is essentially a source for camera dealers to buy in bulk to offer quality products at competitive prices so the web site does not offer significant consumer discounts.
