Question: What equipment do i need to start doing portraits?
I have been doing photography on my own for the past few years. I have done a few local weddings, a few friends senior pictures, sports pictures (indivial and team pics) for a local school etc. I don’t have any backdrops, lighting equipment, props or anything special for my work. I dont have a TON of money to just spend right now as I am getting married in the next 6 months but I also have 2 weddings to shoot next year and some other stuff coming up. Can someone tell me where to buy backgrounds, what color will be the best to buy that can be used for multifunctions and what lighting/flashes i should buy. Thanks.
Answer: Backdrops are cheap. Seamless paper or a muslin backdrop, canvas if you want.
Lighting is the expensive part. You’ll probably need a couple of 500w strobes with softboxes or umbrellas and a 300w for backlighting. Calumet (calumetphoto.com) often has some nice kits cheap. You can go with hotlights cheaper, but there are drawbacks. You can easily figure $1500 for lighting like this, or check craigslist.org (if available wherever you are) for deals of someone else getting rid of some of their gear.
If you want to stick to outside shots, bag the backdrops, consider a couple of hotlights or smallish strobes for fills and large filters/reflectors to soften natural light.

Question: What can I begin to photograph?I work as a press photographer at the moment, and I try to start a business Photography possibly (on the side for now), and I jus' got a chance to shoot my first wedding in a few weeks. I do not have the funds to rent a studio to start doing portraits, I need a bigger wallet … I know I could shoot weddings, festivals, portraits in the house, etc. Does anyone have ideas on other events and situations that I could photograph it would not need a lot of studio equipment (sets, props, lighting, etc.)?? Thank you guys!
Answer: After have been both a photographer and journalist portrait photographer I can relate to your dilemma. The key to moving into a new photographic field is the personal relationships you can make about the way of those you have already put in place. Call everyone you know who has a connection with photography and potential customers. Whether part of all the necessary steps to help you and to the introduction. Second, make sure joining the APA, ASMP LDCs as well as local service organizations such as Rotary or Kiwanis. You'll get great opportunities from there. Then your Volunteer Service (pro bono) for charity events, sports tournaments, etc., and enjoy the opportunity to communicate with the leaders of these organizations. You do not need a studio, but you will need some basic portable lighting equipment and background. Success is more about your ability to promote your skills as a photographer (which I guess is good). The ability to change your focus from the camera business is crucial for moving in the direction you want to go.

Question: Why do the UFC always have a semi-naked hot girl in the background at the Weigh-ins?
If you watch a UFC weith in (search on youtube if you don’t watch them) there is always an “octagon girl” standing in the background wearing a bakini…Is it so that the viewers don’t “feel gay” over the fact that they are watching a semi-naked fighter stand on the weighing scales?
I absolutely LOVE The UFC by the way, I’m genuinly curious as to why they think its necessary.
(although its welcome)Answer: Good eye candy. Arianny is the best looking of them all. In reality it’s because also men are the main viewers of UFC. It’s the same reason boxers don’t have guys in bow ties and socks to show you what round we’re at haha.

Question: How can you make pink flowers stand out against a pink background?Im painting the pink flowers on a sunset thats very pink and its too late to go back: / I want to make the flowers stand out against the pink. What can I do? Add the yellow? Add blue? Thank you all! Very useful!
Answer: If this change of substance is not an option, then try to add dimension to your pink flowers adding touches of yellow, orange, red and white to highlight and contour of pink flowers. Look at your pink flowers near and I'm sure you'll see that they are not flat pink. Instead, you will find at least three shades of color tones. Working with these colors to create depth and help separate them from your background. Hope this helps .. Have fun!
