Question: Tips for getting into photography?

I am looking into doing a little at home photography! Frankly i am just sick of paying someone hundreds of dollars to take pictures of my child do a little editing and then send them off to get printed so I am going to give it a shot. (I am in no way saying that these people are not talented I just would love to try it) I need to know what are some suggestions as far as getting started ex camera, software, seamless backdrops, lighting etc. Thanks for all help and suggestions in advance.

Answer: As a grandfather, my take is this. The occasional studio pictures make some wonderful memories, but the frequent home snaps are very valuable, memories wise. Our pictures of our kids and grandkids at birthdays, xmas, and other special times are invaluable. Pictures of all of us on vacation bring back wonderful memories. May I suggest that you concentrate on these snaps. If you are intrigued further, then it may be time to go into photo classes, DSLR’s, lenses, photoshop, and maybe studio equipment. Maybe you should crawl before you walk.

Question: Depths of paper for photography?

I'm looking for some rolls of seamless paper backdrops, but can only find in sizes 26 ", 53" and 107 ". I want something more along the lines of 6 meters wide, does anyone know where (or if) I can buy a different size a?

Answer: 107 inches is really wide, almost 8 feet. Check hardware stores and art. I honestly wish I had 107 inches paper, so you have a lot of background to work with! Did you look in the actual backgrounds?

Like I said, I just want to take pictures of my kids and learn more about photography but I also don’t want to spend too much. Is this even worth looking at or should I just pay more money and get something better?

Answer: Pay more, get something better. You would be better off buying low end or used off Ebay Alien Bee’s or White Lightning.

The ones you are suggesting are low wattage and with no name brands there is no place for replacement bulbs or repair. I would expect them to be in the trash within a year.

Question: What gives some serious and inexpensive online sources for ordering studio lighting?

Namely – Muslin, Seamless Paper, the background is, Please tell me, lighting only the ones you would personally order! I do not want to be devious or unreliable equipment to order! If you are the photographer, please give me seller / store 's name on e-bay or Amazon, you order it. I'm not super-competent and do not buy crappy stuff! Thanks for the suggestions!

Answer: Amazon, Adorama, B & H, Beach Camera, Dodd EDIT: I personally feel E-Bay is a waste of time. I'm not a fan of auctions to begin, but that is just personal opinion. Anywho … when you talk on the reputation of an online photo store / electronic check their rating on www.resellerratings.com worried. I do this before I buy something online. Also a good rule of thumb is, if it is a price for a product at an online shop and find it cheaper than an Amazon price, it's probably a scam.
