Only certain lenses will reverse well. Some when reversed focus within the lens (so no joy there) and others will allow you to focus nearly on top of the subject (not necessarily a good choice either). You may want to buy some extension tubes to do close up work … they allow you to use more of your lenses.

Okay, well I'm sort of beginner with all this stuff … so I would be able to use a card reversal and extension tubes on my Canon 350D and my 58 millimeters lens? which is better for macro shots? They are worth getting? How much would you pay for them? How much difference it makes compared to the normal lens? I am a student so you do not really have the money to get a good macro lens. Start Answer: Let's clear that the objective for any of these things is to allow the camera to focus on subjects that are closer to the front of the lens than is possible with the common goal. And before you jump to a conclusion that is 'better', you really need to decide how close you want to be able to concentrate. It is customary in the world Macro to define closeness in terms of reproduction ratio. 1:1 means that you are focusing distance so that the matter should be carefully captured on film (or digital sensor) in full-size. That said, the easiest and least expensive is to use close-up lenses, sometimes called diopters' (because strength is measured in an optical drive called a diopter, like eyeglasses). A close up lens will cost you about what a great pair of milk at Starbucks. They have the advantage of not absorb any light, so as not to affect the exposure. However, unless you go for the really top quality (Nikon has some close exceptional slow-up), may introduce aberrations in your image. If this is important it is for you. You can easily find after-market brand lenses with closeup ratings diopter of 1 and 3. I also see some nominal 5, and Edmund Scientific sells a lens attached (you must provide a series of ring mount on the camera) that is assessed 10. As a practical standpoint, 1 and 3 are the only ones that make sense. You can not get to 1:1 with these lenses, but you can get much more than with a naked lens .. If you need to get closer, you should really be looking at the options that offer the best optical performance (distortion less). macro lens and extension tubes do the same basic function. The lens of a camera is focused by moving away from the film (or digital sensor). The ability to focus on issues that are near the camera (and small) depends on how the lens can be moved. The so-called 'macro lens' have focused media that allow them to be moved further away than the normal lens. Traditionally, may have also had additional fixes to improve the optical performance, especially when concentrated, but I would assume that to be the case of ordinary 'macro zoom' lenses. The typical macro zoom can go to the range 1:3 to 1:2, but can be up to 1:1. Canon may have special (read expensive) macro lenses that can give a 1:1 ratio of reproduction. extension tubes perform the same basic function when you insert among them the camera body and lens. Obviously, the extension tubes are available in fixed lengths (typically, they come in groups of three, which can be used in various combinations), and when they are in place, you will lose the ability to focus at infinity. Extension tubes also absorb light – if you insert a tube extension, which is longer equal to the lens focal length, you must increase the exposure of two stops. Extension tubes have the advantage that usually are a bit 'less costly a macro lens. Furthermore, the optical performance with extension tubes is controlled by the lens – did not add any additional glass in optical path. Extension tubes are a practical choice if you want to work in the range of 1:1, or maybe even a little 'closer. Look for extension tubes that allow you to keep exposure automatic capability of your camera and lens. In any case, at least one aftermarket manufacturer offers a teleconverter with a cell removable lens. This can be used either as a teleconverter (to simulate a long focal length) or a single extension tube length. One thing to be concerned with any of these solutions is the distance work – as you approach a 1:1 ratio playback, the front of the lens approaches the subject. One of the really interesting features tubes is that you can use a longer lens to get the distance of more work. My goal is a favorite with tube 100mm lens originally intended for portraiture. Finally, there is the question of reversing rings. This is probably not a good answer, even if the rings are probably the cheapest inversion options identified. A ring is simply a reversing ring of brass or aluminum with male threads on both sides. A series of threads of screws in the lens of the camera, while the other set screws into the female threads on a second slower. The best way is to use a longer lens focal length of the lens materials (eg 100 mm), and then mount a shorter focal length lens in reverse on its end. This is a solution that can easily get well over 1:1 with reasonable optical quality. But, of course, if you do not have the money for a second lens, then buy the ring inversion does not do much. Last point: when working in macro, you want to disable autofocus function on the camera. You can focus manually, but a better solution is to focus the camera movement to or from the whole subject

The program i used lets u import ur own pics, use clipart, and use them for all occasions
