Question: Medium format/APS-C exposure difference?

I have borrowed Pentacon Six TL 6×6 camera and the biggest problem is exposure. Since it doesn’t have light meter, I have a lot of trouble getting the right exposure. The prism who comes along has a light meter but it doesn’t work right. I was trying to use ma APS-C (0.019 CoC, 1.6X) camera to determine the right exposure, but I guess there is an exposure difference between APS-C and 6×6 so I’m wondering, how can I calculate that difference and use my APS-C as a light meterr?

Thanks in advance!

Answer: Exposure is exposure. If you have the digital set to the same ISO, aperture, and shutter as the 6×6, the exposures should be the same. The only difference should be depth of field, which will be greater on the digital. The focal length of the lenses should be fairly equal as well, with conversions applied. You want the in-camera meter to see the same scene that the 6×6 is seeing.

If you camera has a spot meter, use that. Then the focal length won’t matter.

Question: Good quality 35mm compact zoom camera FILM (NOT GSP).?

I EBAY bottom trawls and auctioned two cameras that are fully are inappropriate because they have been provided to APS. I am in the disputed purchases. Why is it that Amazon is unable to give an honest indication of these cameras and EBAY. Amazon Detail Indications that the words for both APS cameras. I think that APS, like a mummy, with only b & w film is available dead (if we) find it. So why are well-known supposidely Companies the opportunity to peddle OOD equipment.

Answer: Why do you need a compact 35mm? It's damned hard to take because no one really wants, is the modern 35mm compacted (unless they were in the best case would last 10 years, with that cheap plasticky nonsense) binned, allowing them to get the most time. If you have a relatively compact 35-mm camera you want is probably better rangefinders saw trouble is that they usually come only with prime lenses, when you reach into your pocket want for a frighteningly expensive Leitz Vario Elmar. Since the rangefinder circuit is not an option, you're best bet is 35mm SLR. You can use a 35mm AF-SLR camera with lens AF to get around £ 40 or £ 50 off ebay and usually in good nick. I have a Canon EOS 600 with EF35-105mm F3.5-4.5 lens with a Hoya skylight and circular polarizers (alone the filters are worth the price of the lot) for £ 40. The lens is miles better than any 35mm compact and you will receive 5 frames per second out of him … if the 600 is a flash unit must have, even though many of the later EOS body does not. Plus, if you have a 50mm F1.8 with ISO800 film everything will be fine without a flash.

Question: fixing scratch on pressure plate/old camera

I dug up an old cam, another Russian rangefinder. Everything works on it a ok, but there’s a scratch on the pressure plate. It affects the photos.
Any ideas on a DIY fix?
I’ve heard that gunsmith blueing works, has anyone tried this method re camera repair?

Thanks in advance.
Yes it does (exposed bare metal) and it’s a huge problem, massive light leak effect in the shots. I thought of using a bit of paint of sorts (I’ve even heard of using nail polish) to blacken the plate, but really wasn’t sure what to use, the last thing I want is to damage the plate further.
I’ll look into the enamel suggestion. It can’t get any worse. :)
Thanks!
Whoever gave kaiy2k a thumbs down, what’s your suggestion.
If you have a better one I’d really appreciate it.
I like this camera and would love to see it in working condition.

Answer: kaiy2k gave a great answer. I honestly think that there is some idiot that just comes into the Photography topics and just randomly votes thumbs down on the answers. I’ve seen topics where there would be no vote and no comments…and then suddenly 5 minutes later every single answer was given a thumbs down vote, for no reason. So don’t take that too seriously.

I love old cameras, and especially rangefinder cameras. They’re so simple and rugged, and there is just something so neat about using a real, antique mechanical film camera. I have a bunch of Argus rangefinder cameras…Argus C3, Argus C4, and C44. They all work great. And there is just something so neat about using a camera that was made LONG before I was born…and still works! (Heck, those cameras are even older than my parents!)

I honestly had no idea that a scratch on the pressure plate would affect the pictures, but it makes perfect sense now. If you can find a good scratch-resistant paint to use to paint over the scratch, that should help. I wonder if the paint they use on model kits might help? Try looking in a hobby shop. In fact, they have enamel paints that are made specifically for metal, so try that. And of course, also try looking in a camera shop to see if they have suggestions.

One website where you should DEFINITELY ask for help is Photo.net – it’s free to join, and you can post a question on the forums. I’d recommend the “Classic Cameras” forum. Everyone there is really helpful, and I’m sure someone could give you a suggestion. I posted a question there about adjusting the rangefinder on one of my Argus cameras, and that same day I had about 12 answers, and a link to a website that had a diagram of the camera! So give it a try! I’m sure someone there could help you.

EDIT: Here is a direct link to the Classic Cameras forum at Photo.net, where you could post a question. You’ll have to register first, but it’s free. You might even try to do a search for “pressure plate” in the questions…maybe someone has already asked about this and found a solution.

Question: Kiev 4M, chamber of Russia?

Just wondering if anyone is a fan of the camera. I have a Russian rangefinder (Fed 5c) and I really love it, but it is difficult to find targets for them. The Kiev 4M on the other hand has many options and not cost you much to equip one with glasses said. It is curious I should mention that …. been looking for medium format SLR for a while. I'll sleep on it:) I actually have a few medium format cameras, from a retail outlet Holga (which I still like, although a temperamental beast) to a 620 Kodak 0.1 Kodamatic fixed recently. They are fun to use, but as a mother in law, difficult to buy. Therefore I am inclined to 35 mm. Thanks for the advice and kind words:) (hopefully film will not be completely overcome by Digi, which would be a shame)

Answer: It is a great camera, however, I suggest looking into Bronica medium format cameras in place. They are quite well cheap, a little more reliable, and the glass is sharper. In some of the prices I've seen recently, a Bronica is actually cheaper than Kiev. You can not go wrong with both directions. Congratulations on your choice of film. Great choice!
