Question: Why the recent interest in Polaroid instant cameras?
It’s bad for the environment due to the chemicals, plastic, and battery that’s included in a 10 picture pack of instant film. It’s costly too, as that same film pack can cost more than the camera itself (that is if you can find that pack of film). The quality of pictures these cameras take is, and has always been, just plain lousy. Polaroid has even abandoned making the film for these cameras as a deadend business.
So back to my question, why the recent interest in this old technology? What sparked it? I really want to know.
Answer: I guess for the same reason, there is an interest for vinyl (LPs, records), and I’ve notice also with the Rubik’s cube with the youngsters. This happens a lot with clothing fashion.
There may be that a particular age group of the population are re-living some of the items they grew up with, or introducing it to their own children, or those who’ve never seen or tried that particular product and are curious. Like most fads, this will be short lived until it’s a “new” thing again with another generation.
Who knows? There may be a greater resurgence of 35mm cameras, (or gasp!) 110 film (Ha! I remember having to use ‘flashbulbs’!), or the disc camera, for when the digital camera generation have never experienced “film” camera/photography.

Question: Is it okay to use expired Polaroid 600 film? There are two offers that I have 8 packages of 80 photos due in May 2009 or 3 packages of 30 photos is expiring in July, August and September 2009. What should I get? If I get the package of 8 ¿how I can keep perfect to last until the end of the year? Is it right? Suggestions? Help? I use it for all the concerts that will be attending this year.
Answer: You can put the film in the refrigerator, which will last longer than the film … but do not put in the freezer. Also, when you making the film out of the refrigerator, allow to warm to room temperature before using (at least one hour before). You can get some slight color changes due polaroid film (which may be a kind of cool effect anyway). But the biggest problem is that developing chemicals in the film is dry, and battery may use if the film is too old. (While we're talking about a period of years, not months). Polaroid Integral batteries are integrated into the tip what power the flash and the engine of the film removal. I would say that if the indicator light still lights flash, the film is probably still is useful. I think you should be perfectly fine with all the film packets at least until the end of the year and probably much longer … especially if it keeps the film in a cool (but not to freeze).
