Answer: I am a Nikon person and have had Nikons since the 70's I personally think that the Nikon D40 gives you more for the dollar than any DSLR today. There are some who are no longer, but you pay a good bit more. Do not let the less megapixels concern you if you do not the drawings are very large, you do not notice the lower DSLR. My brother needs a DSLR for a class recently and I recommended the D40 to him if I also say get the D40 not the D40. The Nikon D40 does not have limited functions compared to DSLRs coming from the other. Yes, it has less body funtions 1500 dollar camera would. It is aa small version inhabitants less than most SLR digital input range. will try to distract you from the lower megapixels. Unless you really really large print, you will not see the lower MP. Megapixels are become the engine of marketing hype camera. Yes, they have a place in image quality but the sensor size, the quality of the sensor and motor image processing and software as much or more a part of what allows a camera to give you a good image. You may want to read here http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htm I have a D300 and D40 and when I shoot for fun I Grabe the D40. Its lightweight, comfortable to use and gives good results if you have a little more money the D60 give you a number of things you want. It is newer firmware and image processors, designed for the 10 MP sensor. It has an "Active Dust Reduction System and Airflow Control. "Nikon not putting a system on the D40 to deal with dust is one of the biggest drawbacks I see the D40 (But I think its still a great camera for the money) If you change lenses dust will get there and the camera needs a system to deal with it. With the D60 you get a VR lens. This will help low-light situations (they may offer that now with the D40 but originally it was not). The D60 has Adaptive Dynamic Range. Nikon calls D-Lighting, "it allows you to save a few highlights that my otherwise be lost. It a new counting system better than the D40. So you can get the D40 not the D40 x and spend the money on other lenses or a flash Some people want to make a big deal about the fact that there are that Nikon lenses will not autofocus on these cameras. Currently there are "only" about 39 autofocus lenses on these cameras. They cover the focal range. I doubt any photographer would be seriously limited with "only" this many goals choose from. If you want to focus manually, you can more than double this and this at a low cost. Manual focusing is easy and how we did things for decades before the advent of autofocus. Cannon and Nikon chose to reduce vibration in the target rather than the body. Somefolks put into the camera and do that. Yes, that means you get stabilization only on lenses with that feature built in. In the body in theory it should work on all lenses. But in fact stbilization image in the lens has proved to work faster and smoother with a lower impact on focus times than image stabilization in the body by closing all major brands manyfactures cameras good. With Nikon and Canon have the largest market share. Most photographers are loyal to what they use and like. Go to the stores get them in your hand and find what you want. What fits your hand well, which has the features you want in an easy to use I hope this helps

52MM 2X TELEPHOTO LENS FOR NIKON D5100 D3100 D60 D90 |
Question: Can I take beautiful pictures with a Nikon D60 without the use of a telephoto/macro lens?
What exactly does a telephoto/macro lens do, and how does it enhance the picture taking experience?
Can anyone suggest some that are under $300, or does that compromise quality? Thanks for all thoughts.
Answer: If price is an issue, look into getting a bellows for you camera. A $300 with a zoom feature is likely going to be very bottom end. For a fixed length lens, that price should be fine. For macro on any lens: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/37840-REG/Nikon_2660_PB_6_Bellows.html
Macro means take very close-up picture of something. Telephoto is taking a picture of something far away having it appear closer.
Honestly, I found that the better I got, the more and more I liked wide angle lenses.
What is most important for taking good pictures is an eye for composition. Not your equipment. It would be akin to complimenting an artist going "That's a really nice painting! You must have some really good brushes and paints!" The equipment is only part of the equation.
Look into the rules of composition like the rule of thirds and leading lines. Those should be good starting points.

Question: cheap telephoto lens for Nikon D50?I had a Nikon D50 for a couple of years and the basic objective is great, but Now for an update. I want a telephoto lens that allows me to do shots of squirrels, birds, etc. I am also looking for something inexpensive (less than $ 250). Any recommendations and links to sample pictures and reviews are welcome. Thank you.
Answer: With your budget, you have basically 3 choices ... Or the Nikkor 55-200 lens, I believe that the correct version VR $ 250. Probably the best choice is the 55-200 VR. The other would be the Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro. Not a goal stabilized, but very good for what it is.
