which one should i get:

a) Canon 400D Digital Rebel XTi with 18-75mm lens
b) Sony alpha A100 with SAL 18200 18-200mm lens
c) NIkon D80 with 18-135mm lens
d) Nikon D80 with 28-105mm lens

The reason im putting only one lens down is because thats all i can afford at the moment. if u have any other suggestions for a lens to pair with one of the cameras, please tell. im going to italy, and want to be able to take landscape/architecture shots, nature shots, possibly close-up shots, and defintely people shots, AND low light places, like in museums w/o flash or at night or in a church, or more specifically the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. so, i know thats asking a lot, but please help. thx.

Answer: I have a D70, so I’m biased. The D80 is a great camera. I’d go with the 18-135 lens. Remember, that will roughly be equivalent to a 27-200 on a 35mm film camera.

A couple of suggestions:
1) If your subject is much brighter/darker than the rest of the scene, don’t use matrix metering. Use either spot or center-weighted & meter the subject.
2) In low light scenes, MANUALLY set the ASA to 400-800. Also, use a tripod or support.

If we compare all of: 1.) Quality Objective 2.) Sensor / ISO 3.) Stablisation Image 4.) Ease of use (5) Any repair or durability / 6.) Room and, last but most imp. 8.) Image quality or does'nt matter? All depends on a particular model of Canon, Sony, Nikon, Kodak and Panasonic.

Question: Is there a shutter release cable that works for both digital and film SLR cameras?

Both are from Canon. The digital is a rebel and the film is an AE-1 Program. And if not then two cables for Digital and film that are really cheap, and where to buy them! I would prefer a store I can just go to, but will buy online if I must.

Answer: The Rebel will use the phono plug I told you about the 1st time you asked this question.

The AE-1 will use any standard cable release, which is a plunger arrangement that screws into the top of the shutter button.

Both should available in any real camera store, or any real camera store on the Web. And both would be much cheaper to get off Ebay.

Both are from Canon. And if there are two cables for digital and film that are really cheap, and where to buy them!

Answer: The short answer is yes. The problem with the release Canon is that there are two different types, so be sure to use the correct one. The Rebel series uses a mini jack, headphone jack seems. The 10D-50D, and the series 1, use a completely different 3 pin. A basic version of one of the two is less than $ 10 on eBay. Just search on your camera model and "remote-release"
