Question: neutral density filter or polarizing filter?

for a 35mm lens

Answer: What is your goal?

A polarizing filter can enhance the sky/cloud combinations in the sky that is 90 degrees to the arc of the sun. It can also reduce reflections in water and other reflective surfaces, but not all. Due to its design, it will cut out from one to one and a half stops of light (you meter will see this)

An ND filter is used when you want to use slow shutter speeds, but there is too much light falling on the subject. The neutral density filter reduces the amount of light passing through the lens, evenly with all colours. ND filters are graded, so you can reduce the amount of light to your own specifications

Polarizers and ND filters work with film and digital sensors in the same way. It is only if you have an auto focus lens, you will need to buy a circular polarizing filter
