Question: is there a pentax a level below the k10d?

I just ordered a canon g9 after many recommendations, and after fiddling with the s5 is (also recommended). I’m a newbie with only the patience and $ for a p&s. They’re from Costco, so I can play with them for 90 days… I’ve had dozens of card cameras already, because I’m slinging a toddler most of my day, so I’m really into portability.
I keep hearing how the kit lenses junk, but I only have the choice between keeping it on 24/7 vs fully auto g9 (yes, i know the 12mp is overkill for the sensor). I HATE using a flash, too, but shoot indoors 1/3 as much as outside, so am constantly deleting the blurry pics.
I also, DO have the time to mess with raw/editing, though i’ve never experienced the raw (a g9 feature).
I guess where i’m going is… i’ve done my homework on the nikons and canons (I’m favoring both), is there a pentax kit in that $500 or less range that runs with these guys performance wise.
WOW…

Answer: All point and shoots regardless of price just aren’t great when it comes to low light, high ISO shooting without a flash. The only exception is Sigma’s DP1, it costs too much and has usuability issues. Cut the price of that in half I might mess with it.

From what you’ve posted here, I think you need to skip the p&s cams and get a dSLR. The entry level Pentax have been getting good reviews. As for the cheap kit lens, while they aren’t amazing by any stretch, they blow away the cheapo lenses on compact digital cams.

On the cheap

Nikon d40x d60

Sony Alpha A200, 499 with lens

Canon XS (august)

Pentax k200d

Don’t worry about resolution, read the reviews, try and go to bestbuy or some other store to handle them, see what they feel like. Get sample pics online (tip, google image search, xtra large images)

good luck

Question: New Camera Bag?

I have an old 35mm Pentax Spotmatic 2 and wanted to see if anyone knows a good bag. I have a 28mm lens, a 55 mm lens and a 200mm lens, along with a 3-fold telli extender. I also have all the cleaning gear and film along with a few personal things. I would be a Ove like a backpack-style sling. I would like to remain at around $ 50. Thanks I can be up to $ 100

Answer: Whatever you do, do not buy it without seeing it! I set up the same problem with my Canon AE-1. Try going to your local chain (eg, Wolfe) and attempts to your camera equipment to pack into a bag. (I'm sure nobody will mind, it is like trying to) on the clothes.

Question: Should i sell my sigma 10-20 to buy studio lighting.?

I want to go into fashion photography when im older, so it would make sense and i cant afford the studio lighting any other way. But i do like using my sigma lens out side. What should i do?

Answer: If its just to practice and to try various things then keep your lens and buy some cheap Tungsten Hologen fittings and stands.

They are used on building sites and are really heavy duty. The best thing is they are available for less than £20.00 each from any Electrical Wholesaler.

Unlike film colour balance isn’t a problem as you can calibrate your DSLR with nothing more than a piece of white paper.

I realise this is not ideal, but it is an alternative.

Question: What is an economic good lighting to use for a study of interior?

I have 2 studio lights that are crappy paid and 40 total on ebay that have umbrellas and only one control switch anywhere else … I am the light of day / blue bulbs in them … my photos on white background yellow seems … also the lighting doesn't even seem real sometimes … i want to look better but do not have much to spend

Answer: One thing to watch is to read your instruction manual and look for white balance. Most cameras have the ability to change the white balance based on the situation. Examples of white balance can be open air and sunshine, outdoor shade, flash, fluorescent lighting, etc. Since this is your home studio, you can take a couple photo for each type of white balance and see if any of them get the photos back to something realistic.

I hope you liked our page on Studio Lighting Light… If you did not find what you were after, try above in that search box. (It”s downright psychic!)
