Question: Shadows on my pictures?
Ok I did a photo shoot today of my daughter on a pink canvas background. I have studio lights and used them for the first time and also just got a nikon D40 and used the portrait setting and all my pics have a shadow…I am really upset…what happened??
Answer: If you can put a link to an example it would make it easier to answer the question. Here is one possibility. If she was too close to the background so that the shadow from the lights fell on the area of the background that was in the frame then it will cause a shadow. You can move her further from the background, move the lights so they don’t cast the shadow on the background, or move the camera so the shadow is not in the composition.

Question: Oil on canvas, not drying and I'm not sure why?I'm using Winsor and Newton 'WATER oily COLOR STUDIO SET' Cadmium and I painted a white canvas 'red hue' for the background and used linseed oil to thin the paint out. It 'been a week now and did not appear have dried to all, no one knows why this might be? Hmmm I'm not sure of obtaining the use of linseed oil then … if needs to be combined with thin to reduce the consistency of paint, why not just use a diluent for the own? Linseed oil does any other use that acts as a thinner?
Answer: With the water mixable oils, you can thin the paint with water, rather than having to use oils. They make a special line of medium, if you need them – but mostly just paint with painting and sometimes a small amount of water. It may take some 'time for the paint dry, it can take a bit 'longer if the paint is often the case.

Question: Tamron SP AF 90mm f2.8 Macro 1:1 Di or AF Micro-NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8D For My Nikon D80?
In your opinion, which is a better lens for beginning macro photography. I’d appreciate pros and cons. This isn’t that big an investment for a lens, but it’s not a small one either. : )
Answer: This depends on the type of macro photography you want to do and other uses you develop for the lens. Typically, an exotic or specialty lens is only used for certain shooting situations. The tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro is a true 1:1 reproduction lens, but its focal length makes it just as effective as a portrait lens being that it is a fast prime, giving you a dual purpose. The longer macro also gives the flexibility of a longer focusing distance, allowing you to remain at a safer distance from your subject, instead of being right on top of it. This is my opinion, were I to ever invest in a macro lens myself, I’d prefer the longer one. Aside from that, they’re both fast, both specialized with 1:1 magnification, both have good reviews. Some folks prefer a nikkor over the third party manufacturer, your only other option for a longer macro would be the AF-S nikkor 105mm f/2.8 VR [more expensive, but the best option for a longer nikkor lens *with VR*].

Question: insect photography and tripods? So im buying a sigma 105mm macro to type on my D80 for some plans Nice macro (mainly insects). Now Im stuck in a strange dilemma, use a tripod or not. It seems that the use a tripod on both macro would almost impossiable for the insect box and ready to fire ect. But at the same time, my goal does not have VR or something like that if I do not want to risk the sharpness of the image. Another thing is that with a tripod, I would distance About me .. so is there a shorter tripod used in macro photography specifically, so please tell me if (it would be appreciated reatly = D) .. Do tripods use the program for only insects that do not move? But what they do about the bees, flies, and all these goodies?
