Answer: I think it depends on which professionals you are talking about. Most professionals are working in news, stock, some weddings and celebrity photography, and in those cases, dSLRs are the best choice, like from Canon and Nikon. But if you are talking studio photography and weddings, primarily, then I think yes, the Hasselblad system with Zeiss lenses holds a special place for those pros. Things have changed in the last few years, though, due to the transition to digital.

Hasselblad’s newest cameras do not use Zeiss lenses, but those made by Fujinon. And they are outstanding.

I’ve personally used a 503cw with Zeiss lenses and it is very very nice equipment, and of course very expensive. I’m hoping to see digital backs for these cameras come down further in price, and when they do, there will probably be thousands sold because there are countless 500-series cameras out there.

Answer: The Zeiss lenses are overrated, and their days of glory are in the last decades, in each case. There are people who go delighted with the sharpness of the images, but when you actually test your lenses just do not seem to be that way. Both Canon and Nikon have good glass, the points that photographers asked to choose one over the other have more to do with the characteristics (speed of auto focus, vibration reduction, etc. ring placement) of optical quality. The general consensus seems to be that Canon has designed a bit 'better at the end telephoto lens, Nikon is perhaps a bit' better at the end angle. But there are professionals who use both systems successfully.
