Question: Gaming Desktop Performance FPS?

How will the following system i’m about to buy perform on good FPS games ?

Intel Core 2 Quad E8500 Processor (3.16 GHz)
Zalman CNPS9700-Cu LED Processor Cooler
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4830 (512 MB)
Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L Motherboard
Western Digital Caviar 320 GB Internal Hard Drive
4 GB Kingston HyperX (800 MHz) RAM
Gigabyte 3D Aurora 570 Casing (Black)
Sony DVD Burner (Black)
Cooler Master Real Power Pro 650 Watt Power Supply
Built In Wireless Network Support
Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1

I chose the Radeon 4830 coz it runs 30-40 degrees cooler than the radeon 4850 and 4870

PLS suggest any alternative hardware which will be roughly the same price!!

TY

Answer: That’s not a quad-core, the E8500 is a dual-core.

This whole machine looks spot on, but you should go for the 4870.
You may have chosen not to go with it due to the heat it can make, but it has an extractor cooling solution so hot air is expelled rather than being dumped into your case to heat up every other component, this will help temps much more than any single slot cooler card will.
Also the 4870 is much better performance than 4830, it will give you at least a year extra of playable framrates, compared to the 4830.

I would go with a Phenom X4 quad-core as there the same price as that Intel dual-core, and much more future proof, as AMDs Socket AM2+ is compatible with future Socket AM3 CPUs/mobos.
Whereas Intel have already released there new socket 1366 and it is not compatible with their old S775.
I would go for the AMD Black Edition Phenom X4 9950 / 2.6 Ghz.
These easily hit 3.4Ghz with very little effort and will eliminate any possible CPU bottleneck your machine may have.

Edit:
Flack your missing the point, when all you can upgrade to is a Q6600 or similar, due to aging S775, AM2+ owners will be able to drop in a 6/8/10 core AM3 CPU. (2009/2010)
An AM2+ mobo is an easy upgrade path.

Also ATI is the smarter graphics choice as only ATI cards are DX10.1/SM 4.1 (ie DX11 compliant)
nVidia are still on DX10.0/SM 4.0 (ie not DX11 compliant). So a decent ATI card from this generation will take you right through Windows 7/DX11 games with out an upgrade.
nVidia will not.

I see no point in getting less advanced/ less future-proof hardware for the same price.

All these tests are programs optimized for 1/2 threads, obviously if you compare a 2Ghz to a 3Ghz CPU the faster will win, seeing as the Core2 and Phenom architecture are pretty much clock for clock performance wise, these tests are irrelevant and I have come to expect as much from Toms Hardware, if this is where you get your hardware info from then you are quite miss informed.

Edit 2
The CPU’s purpose in a gaming rig is to give enough overhead to not bottleneck the graphics card(s).
With any high-end card, eg HD4870/GTX280, any dual-core will be a bottleneck, therefore a quad is the best CPU for a gaming rig.
I can see why you would think Core2duos are better as sites will often bench with mid-range cards, so as to eliminate the need for any CPU overhead, and thus make the average consumer think it is Superior.
A good demonstration of this CPU bottleneck is 3D Mark 06, look through the results, and you will find the SM2/3 scores, (ie the graphics score) of high end cards increases as the CPUs go from dual to quad, and up in frequency.

Crysis for example is bottlenecked at up to and past 4Ghz quads, with GTX280 SLI

Question: Are there any major concerns with buying a Kodak Easyshare one, especially with the battery?

I am interested in buying a Kodak easyshare one, but I can’t seem to find any customer reviews. I am wondering if the Li-Ion Rechargeable Battery is a good option or annoying. And just want to be sure that regular batteries can not be used. Sort of just looking to hear the pros and cons of this camera.
Thanks!

Answer: Here’s an in-depth review for the EasyShare 1 (a decent camera but you pay extra for the gadget-factor): http://www.steves-digicams.com/2005_reviews/esone_pg5.html
I agree with Geek that the included software is a pain. I find it’s a lot easyer to transfer the pictures to the computer with a card reader and use ACDSee or some other program to view them.
(We have a different model, but we’re very happy with our Kodak.)

Question: Can I recharge AA batteries in a Kodak battery charger polaroid?

thank you.

Answer: Brands of batteries are not important. What is important is the type of battery. If the charger polaroid is made for the type of AA batteries you have then its fine. TYPE: Alkaline or Manganese Dioxide – DO NOT try to recharge them, they will leak or explode Lithium – Same Lithium Ion battery – rechargeable, but they do not come from AA size so do not worry none of those here. NiCd or Nickel Cadmium – rechargeable NiMH or Nickel Metal Hydride – Rechargeable NiMH batteries are not the same as if NiCd do not charge a single type of battery in a charger for another if it has a / NiCd NiMH switch it on.
