Question: Can someone give me advice on Canon wedding lenses for weddings and even other events.?
I have been doing wedding photography at the lower middle end. I have almost 2 grand to spend on some lenses. Option 1 is to spend all of it on the 70-200 f/2.8L IS. Option 2 is to get the 70-200 F4 WITHOUT IS and also pick up the 24-70 2.8L. I tried out the F4 without IS and I did like it. I don’t just do Weddings but I am not sure if the F4 would be good enough in a church. For some formal pictures using flash bouncing off of my reflectors would be great but if I had to take some photos without flash at the alter….. not sure if it will be good enough. I guess the 24-70L 2.8 would come in at that time. I would like to know what other people think. On the other hand getting that great IS f/2.8 would make me 99% sure that I can get the right shot and if it is a bad shot it’s on the photographer (me) and I don’t want to be saying “only if I had the IS or 2.8. Any advice would be appreciated.
Answer: sounds like you’re right on the money with your thinking.
the 24-70 is an awesome lens for low light, especially like a church, where you don’t want your flash blaring…You may also want to consider the Sigma 70-200 2.8. It’s about $800, and from the reviews that I’ve read, it does almost as good a job as the canon.
It doesn’t come in that cool “Cream color” which tells others “hey, I’ve spent a lot of money on my camera equipment” But I’m betting that for $500 you’d be willing to give up the bling…And canon Makes a very cheep 50mm 1.8 ($85) but you get what you pay for. It takes nice pictures, but I’m always afraid that it’s going to break in my hands… It really feels cheep!
They make a higher end 50mm 1.4 which is a super lens, with somewhat limited situational use…which is why I haven’t made the plunge on that one yet…
