Question: does nikon d40 have commander mode for remote flash?

I was wondering if I could use just one remote flash placed by itself on a seperate tripod. my nikon d40 will have no flash hooked up to the top of my camera. so somehow my camera will have to trigger the remote flash from its menu options instead of from a master flash that is usually hooked up ontop of the camera. I have heard of commander mode for other nikon models that can do this, does the nikon d40 has this feature?

Answer: No, the D40/X and D60 doesn’t have commander mode.
The rest of the them does.

Question: Can I Flash Nikon SB-800 be used to trigger studio lights IR sensitive without firing himself?

I saw control mode with the flash but if the flash itself is not shooting, the studio lights do. I'm looking for an alternative to buying a IR remote control or by using the sync cable.

Answer: If you set the SB-800 to its lowest setting M-mode it should trigger the studio lights as long as your home or not in full light (flashes confused) and should not contribute much of anything in the exhibition. But honestly with the SB-800 is a bit of a waste. I am sure that you use for other things well. A good radio trigger is worth the money. Skyport eg 4 groups you can use. You can put each flash his own group. When your As you do not have someone else pop the flash for you, just plug the transmitter into your player, put the group A and fire. Only group A will fire. Then set the group B, only group B will fire. Then you can set the transmitter to fire all the groups and your rocking and rolling. Skyport I mention because I know them, but there are better cheaper units available now too.
