Answer: Ok. Lets take this a bit at a time. There is a concept called “circle of confusion” that defines what is the largest size part of the image that can be blurred and the image still considered to be in focus. Then there is a concept called “depth of field” the defines how much in front of and how much behind the actual point of focus we find the circle of confusion to be small enough. Then there is “bokeh” which is originally a Japanese word. “Bokeh” is a subjective judgment of the quality of the out of focus areas and is largely effected by things like the number of blades in the diaphragm and the number/type of the lens elements.

To get the blurry background that you want, you want to increase the ratio of distance of the background to the distance of the item in focus and you want to reduce the depth of field. Depth of field increases as the lens is stopped down, so you want F/2.8 and not F/16 and you want longer focal length, which is why you should shoot fully open at F/2.8 and with the lens set to the longest focal length at 55 or 88 (whichever it is).

Here is an example with what I will call creamy bokeh of Christopher Cheboiboch winner of the 2002 Boston Marathon about a mile before the finish line. The lens was the 100-440 f/4.5 – f/5.6 Canon, extended out to 400mm fully open at f/4.5.

Question: Canon EOS 500D filters PLEASE HELP! X?

Hiya I really need all the help I can do with it. My other half is in Photography and has a Canon EOS 500D … her birthday is coming and I really want to buy accessories for Nice his camera as filters and other things ….. I do not really know many filters for cameras and I was wondering if someone could point in the right direction …… Perhaps this type should I buy / what the effects of Nice …. also where I could do ….. answers much appreciated! ! Thank you guys :-) xxxxxx

Answer: The filters depends on the lens (es), you should check the lens of what the size filters to buy. If there is no circular polarizers, then they should be the obvious choice and very popular. If you willing to spend a little more money, do go with some Cokin filters – get the owner, and perhaps a circular polarizer, ND filter plus a progressive too. Make sure to get the owner, the more some strengthening rings for use with several lenses. Your local photo store would have some of these (but more expensive), and B & H is a well respected magazine and website that you can order from without having to worry about.

Question: How do I turn off write protection on my Flash Card Reader/Writer? I have a micro sd chip inside of it…?

Background Info:

I have Samsung a900 cell phone and I wanted to put music on it so i bought a 1 gigabite micro SD card(http://www.transcendusa.com/Products/ModDetail.asp?LangNo=0&ModNo=96) and flash card reader/writer(http://www.kinamax.com/product/index.htm).

Anyways I put it together and popped it in the computer. I am able to read the pictures that took with my phone, but when I open the “removable drive” at My Computer and try to add MP3s or any file for that matter I get the response, “Error Copying File or Folder: Cannot copy U2 – Beautiful Day: The disk is write-protected. Remove the write-protection or use another disk.”

Anyways as a result I cannot transfer anything new onto the micro sd card. As well on the micro sd card I made sure it is not set to lock.

Answer: Has nothing to do with the reader. Check your card, most have a very small slide switch on the left edge that will protect the card. You may have “snapped” it on accident when you were putting the card in the reader.

Question: How do I fix my Card Reader / Writer?

I have a Card Reader / Writer that shows how 5 drives. I hate that, I really really hate. I want to show it as a drive only if it has a card to read. You know how when you insert a USB stick into your PC USB port, it shows only as a drive when you plug it in. Or is there a way to permanently rename the 5 drives, so that when I plug a card into the reader, I know what it is. I can change it, but it seems to rename back to their own "Removable Disk (E:), (F:), (G:) (H:) and (I:) if I shut down or restart the computer. Yes, there is a 5 in 1

Answer: Is it a multiple card reader? As a 5 in one or 7 in one card reader. If so the various slots, add the cards are actually identified as different drives or I / O devices. This is how your operating system to recognize them. You can rename it, but you can not be recognized as a drive or I / O device. How will you try to name them? You should open in a position to "My Computer" Then right-click the device and click Properties. Rename it and click Apply. Unless you pull the card from the computer, it should be named to keep the equipment.
