Question: Which budget digital slr camera should I go for?
I'm thinking of buying a digital slr camera. I'm 15 and will plan on using this for a few years. I've been using my dad's old minolta 7d but i feel it's a bit outdated. I've been looking at the Nikon D40 and the D60, as well as the Sony A200 and the Canon Rebel xti. My Budget is around 400 right now. So suggestions on where to buy a dslr with a lens and not just a body will be great. Thank you.
Answer: Definitely the Sony A200, you'll be able to use the Minolta 7D lenses on it for a start! Minolta was bought by Sony, so it is likely that whatever accessories you have on the Minolta will work on the A200.
If your Minolta has the 50mm f1.7 lens, it is EXCELLENT on the A200.
People who don't know any better will say that your choices are limited with Sony, but they forget that 20 years worth of Minolta lenses and accessories work on the Sony!

Question: What digital SLR?So I'm new to the DSLR world. I used the film until now, but I think it's time to move on. I am looking for a good DSLR entry level. There are a few cameras that I have my eye on, but I'm not familiar enough with photography digital to know which is best. I've been looking at are the Canon EOS Rebel XT, 50D Nikon, Minolta 5D, and Pentax * ist DL. Does anyone have any experience with any of these cameras, or does anyone know of any other cameras that are better for all the same price?
Answer: You say you've been using the film so far. If you've been using one of the newest autofocus bodies, is a very good chance most of the acessories who has bought in recent years would be compatible with a digital camera's manufacturer. For example, a homeowner with a Canon EOS lenses, a flash, filters, etc, would be wise to look at the lineup of digital SLR from Canon. This would be the best value. If you had a couple Canon AE-1, the lenses would not be useful for you in a digital camera, so you might consider looking at other manufacturers. I keep my film camera, anyway. I make a trip to a photo shop a good reputation. This will give you some tips, but more important to test the cameras in hand. Some are heavier or lighter than others. Some are larger or smaller. Choose one that feels comfortable in your hands, not a favorite of salespeople. Many people from the sale will be biased to Nikon. Do not let anyone sway you. Buy what feels good in your hands. Easy to use controls, etc. We prefer to use Canon for both film and digital. We believe that the line Canon digital to have the greatest depth and is the only manufacturer to make all their own components.
