Question: What is a good general use lens for a Canon XT?

I’d like to get a general use lens to replace my current 18-55 kit lens for my canon XT. I’m a hobbyist and by no means a professional, so what is a good expensive general use lens?

Answer: I must admit that I don’t know a lot about Canon lenses, but here a few you might look into.

Canon EF-S 17-85mm IS f3.5-5.6
Canon EF 28-135mm IS f.3.5-5.6 (note that this lens doesn’t get very wide, not too good if you are in a confined space)

That’s all I can think of now, but here’s a list of all of the Canon lenses currently in production

Question Help me decide between film and digital travel kit?

I'm going on a bit of a photo trek in the Caribbean and South America and I am desperately trying to decide between the film and a digital set. The digital pictures I have seen photo mags do not appear in the color intensity and sharpness the images move like this. Show Faces shortage and the images, while noise, have a plasticky smoothness to them. However, many mags digital photography and I run 'm told this is "the future". I would certainly appreciate the convenience of digital (vs. tiny cards bulky cartridges), but also high-end digital missing, what a cheap SLR and a role can produce ISO100 slide film. Am I too picky? Does anyone notice the difference? FYI, it is basically handed vs D80 F80 (N80 for you Yanks). I would be with Nikon's 18-35 and 35-70 f2.8 on the camera plus 35-70 and 12-24 on the D80. I am well versed in Photoshop and I can do good prints. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer: It sounds to me like you have up your mind that the movie is better than electronic. I personally do not view my electronic images on screen, printed, so I do not need huge resolution. I printed my 6-megapixel photos on 4 "x6" Paper and can not tell the difference. I say, it depends on how your going to see the pictures. If you can view a slideshow, you could shoot just as well on slide film.

We hope you found this page on Film Digital useful… In case you didn”t find what you were after, give the search box above a try! (It”s amazingly intuitive.)
